So we're not pegging production to cap hit anymore? The moment you detach the two is the moment you start mismanaging assets. For example, trading Drake because he isn't playing up to a $

But then we’d have to trade Norris and give Timmy a raise and fire Perron to the moon.

Last season people were saying Chabot was untradebke, 50 games later all 31 teams would trade for him.

Produciton is as much about system and the players around you as salary.

I don't know how this supports your original point of trading Drake because he isn't playing to top line potential at the moment. But anyway, not worth arguing.

Zub was hung out to dry because he was supposed to get support from Giroux. Giroux was 10 feet out of position, Chabot was challanging his man the way the play is designed, maybe a touch agressive, but the real breakdown was Giroux.
Chabot was ok following his man
Maybe Giroux has a shorter route to Mangiapane and Zub could have challenge McMichael at some point if Giroux commits to Mangiapanne but the real breakdown I see when I slow the play is Forsberg inviting McMichael to top shelf the puck over his glove
And that's exactly what he did

Anyway goals like this will happen against the second best offence in the league
Important is they found a way to win

More like if Canucks would take Drake for Milker if do it because the production vs increased cap hit would be a no brainer - but I love Drake and in reality I want Staois to run this team into the playoffs and see what we got in this group of players

The problem is Giroux was supposed to come down on the weak side to support the play there, he didn't which meant that Zub couldn't release and challenge McMichael. Chabot was doing his job on that play in a Diamond formation by pressuring the puck carrier, we do the same thing all the time, that's the system. Maybe he got a little further out than you'd like with the 5th man getting back on and in the play, but Giroux is supposed to be at the hashmark there and instead is at the top of the circle in no mans land
I saw it live. Haven't seen a replay. What I saw was a void in the space where the LD is supposed to be and the LD at the top of the circle. There just wasn't anyone between the shooter and the goalie. 30 feet of emptiness .it was noticeable live because you literally never see that in an nhl game other than on a breakaway.

Until the Chabot overtime goal!!!

chabot chasing his man to the top of the circle allowed McMichael to walk out from the corner. Never should have been able to walk out like that
Ya, like a lot of goals, there were several things that happened that led to the goal.

Forsberg has played well in the last stretch (excluding the first goal which I mentioned) & I thought he was decent in the last game.

OK. Ya you got me there but that's 3 on 3. What I mean was it was visually weird. He just walked out from the corner and there was nothing but white ice. You just don't normally see that
I was totally tongue in cheek. Lots of different things went on in that game. Great one to see live.

I've said my piece when it comes to breaking down the play, I agree McMichael had a ton of space, we differ a bit on why but as is often the case, when that much space is given its usually more than one thing happening that compounds into a bigger issue.

I guarantee you all if Forsberg literally stays square to the shooter, this would be a non-conversation.

Zub covered back door. It was McMichael 1on1 far left of goalie and he played it worst way possible.

If Chabot doesn't follow his guy, that guy probably has a terrific look to the net more square to Forsberg, albeit not as close.

No thanks! Where there's smoke for this long there is definitely some fire! Simpler to avoid both players out of caution. Rarely do we hear or know the entire story, but I suspect this is about much more than 2 guys who don't like the smell of each others' deodorant. Something happened and somebody is bitter or seriously damaged over something and it could be beyond the immediate them. It could involve spouses, or whatever. Remember the Karlsson and Mike Hoffman saga? No thanks! Don't care who may be at fault, I just don't want or need any extra bullshit fracturing a locker room.
Saw an interview this week on CIH with the guy spreading the rumour about Norris/EP. He said EP doesn't like confrontation, would go off by himself, a little bit of a loner. He also doesn't play physical, was invisible in the playoffs and his production has come way down since signing the big contract. I'm in total agreement, big No to either player. Both players could be very disruptive to the team chemistry (for different reasons) and Norris has started to come into his own. I only expect him to get better as it's been a minute since he played a full season.

What's wrong with Perron playing in the top six LW spot? He certainly has the experience & scoring ability. He's had a tough yr with family issues & injuries, but he's back now & we can see he is a smart player who can produce offence.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt given the tough situation but 1 point in 13 games isn’t what we’re looking for.

I’m concerned about the heavy boots as well.

The problem with offence was that it was team wide, right? Given the last game against Wash & that league wide scoring is down we do have plenty of players who can produce offence if & when they get going. We saw in the Wash game Norris play to his potential, the same can be said for Pinto & Greig who are young & will only get better.

We need more scoring from the defence & I expect that we should see more pts from Sanderson, Chabot & Jensen who are all capable of putting up more pts. By heavy boots I assume you mean bringing in a tough player? IMO this is what we need so that Tkachuk doesn't have too & every yr we see how tough the playoffs are. We'll see what they decide they need at the trade deadline, I assume they do something.

No, by heavy boots I mean I’m concerned that Perron isn’t fleet enough of foot to keep up in the top 6.

I definitely would like to add more physicality though.

Someone that understands hockey better than me, tell me if Chabot creeping up was a smart play or not. Love the result either way.

Just saw there were three along the boards. Great read from Chabot.
It's funny. Chabot was on CIH podcast yesterday and said that he was initially going towards the neutral zone when Josh and Norris were fighting for possession of the puck. That was when the 3rd Caps player also went to the boards and left Chabot alone. That's when he decided to go to the slot area. The work done by Norris and Pinto to get the puck, then Pinto's beauty pass to Chabot, who then had a great shot on net which led to the win. All 3 of those players had a great night, happy to see them get rewarded. Smart move by Green to put them out together in OT.

Jeez after seeing pinto and Norris tonight, do you put them on a line together?

Amazing win
Keep on rolling big red and black machine
Go Sens Go
Well, they can keep them together on the PK, put Pinto and Norris on the same PP unit, and together in OT like they did in this game. If they consistently do well, then put them on the same line when the team is having a hard time finding the back of the net. Brady, Stu, Drake and G have been meh for awhile now.

The thing is though what do you do with Perron given he has another season left? I think management want him to play in a position where he can contribute for the salary he has been given. They have three good lines now that all seem to be clicking at least last game gave us a glimpse of it. I'd be surprised if they were to add more goal scoring, I think they add more muscle, it's cheaper & a need IMO. Maybe they add both. We'll see soon enough.

Couldn't be more fitting for Simmer thans Sens and Caps in OT.
I remember on one of his last episodes on CIH podcast he said he thought he was becoming a Sens fan, something he never said in the past (not a fan of any particular team, just hockey). I think he's even happy with the result. RIP Simmer, you'll be sorely missed.

You never fail to be petty, even on a night like this.

Yeah he's not improving at all and has literally shown nothing so far. Like, literally nothing.

With that said, if we make the playoffs, he might provide the experience we need to go far, and will be fresher having not played for half the season.
Well, he setup Greig for the 1st goal with a beauty pass. Give him some time, he's missed a lot of hockey but he's a smart player.

We definately need Jensen back for those Tampa games.
Well, Wally on CIH said Jensen and Gregor were skating so maybe?

He's been a solid bottom-6er IMO
I agree. Green has stated how good that line has been (Greig, Pinto, Amadio) as a checking line against the opponents top players. He doesn't make a lot of dumb plays. May be a little snake bitten when it comes to scoring, but that can be said of a lot of the forwards (Stu, Brady, Drake, G).

Travis Green really has instilled a work ethic and commitment to defensive hockey which is resulting in wins. But he's also getting saves from his goalies which we didn't get last year. If DJ had gotten consistent saves, I bet we wouldn't have criticized him so much.

I don't disagree that our goalies are better right now but none of the goalies that played during the whole rebuild were put in a position to succeed under DJ Smith. We just couldn't play good defensive hockey during his whole tenure. We were gift wrapping goals like crazy, now teams just score against us as it's a different "feel", not breaking down structurally anywhere as close as what we were doing.
