McAvoy hasn't been good since his return. I'd argue since his own return Chara has been even worse.

Miller has been had some decent games but some real stinkers in-between.

Krug is Krug

Moore, Gryz and Carlo have been the most consistent D-men on this team from start to finish.

One guy is sitting upstairs and another (Gryz) appears to be the guy they'd consider dealing to bring in forward help.

I have the definite feeling that one or more of our D is getting dealt for forward help. I also have the gut feeling one of them is going soon. That will open things back up for Moore and hopefully Urho and Lauzon.

The limited view of both their play has been promising and I would like to see more.

...and Moore.

I have maybe one or two on ignore but I changed my mind on one and now can't figure out how to reverse my decision.

Go to your Account Settings (click on your login ID at the top right) and look on the left for People You Ignore. You can take them off the list there.

Serious question -

Are there honestly still people out there who are unconditionally saying Z can play for “as long as he wants” and things like that? I’m not sure how any reasonable fan can not have at least a moderate level of concern.

The demands on his body are already so great at his age. Throw in a knee injury earlier this year and I think we’re seeing the results.

Overplay the elder D and you will see problems. Very similar to the Ron Hainsey situation in Toronto. Z needs to stop playing 20 minutes. The problem is that we have no one ready to eat those minutes right now. Ideally we have an inhouse solution in Vaak and Lauzon, but we cannot get them room to play to have them develop like Carlo has.

Was looking at our UFA/RFA list. I remember a year ago thinking this was going to be a brutal bunch of contracts to hand out. Now?

Charlie: 4.5m?
Carlo: 3m?
Heinen: lol?
Cehlarik: can't be much of a concern
Chara: might retire?

We're going to have cap space

Even though the other lines didn't score, I thought they played well.

Krejci's line was all over the offensive zone. Cehlarik put one off the back wall that almost went in. He also had a couple nice passes to DeBrusk for good chances.

Really liked the 3rd line too. Heinen played well, Frederic had a great debut and nearly batted one in out of the air. I thought that was the best Backes has played all year.

My eye test saw that the 2nd with Cehlarik and the third with Frederick were more dangerous. Scoreless, but still had chances.

IMO that both earned a continued look on their lines respectively. Give em a couple weeks and see how things shake out. A trade or two might change the complexion completely by the end of next month anyhow.

Tonight's #WPGvsBOS game is being scouted by #VAN (2 scouts), #BUF, #CHI, #CBJ , #EDM, #FLA (4 scouts), #MIN, #NSH, #NJD (2 scouts), #NYI, #NYR (3 scouts), #OTT (2 scouts), #PIT, #TBL, #TOR.

This was mentioned earlier in our GDT. Both teams are looking for help on the trade front to fill holes and solidify their teams for the postseason. On the other hand they are two teams that can burn you if you dont have a gameplan against them. So scouting could just be scouting.

Ain’t hindsight wonderful?

Could have been more of a wonderful hindsight if DS and co. Would not have been as incompent in 2015 .

I'll agree with you on this. My posts over the summer were very worried about our cap space for our batch of UFA/RFAs. Amazing how that has changed.

How?? Why?? .. Hes been playing with one of the craftiest centers in the league.. De brusk has a nice energy with a skill of gettibg behind defenders (although hasnt done it in a while) and good soft hands (good with deflections) but Connor league wide has better value than Debrusk no matter who he is playing with..

Scheif >>>>> Krejci
Wheeler >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> whomever

But is “overplaying” him really the problem?

Team had a week and a half off and he had one of his worst games of the year last night.

Some very good points. I don't think there is any debate that the Kuraly-Acciari-Wagner line is the 3rd line right now. Like you said at the end of the day whatever line is 3rd in ice-time is the 3rd line. Call it for what it is, it's a grinding energy line.

Funny part is, I don't dislike Wagner or Kuraly when he's on the wing.

A 4th line of Kuraly - ????? - Wagner playing 10-11 mins a night I have absolutely no problem with .

Last night was a good example of the way Cassidy wants to use that line for. 14 hard minutes with D zone starts. They didn't look to have their legs going as good as they did before the break, but Winnipeg is a pretty quick team as well. Maybe they get a little less ice when Cassidy has a little more trust in the Heinen-Fredrics-Backes line defensively. Also not sure what the PK time was for those guys, but that always swings that line a couple of minutes if the Bs take 3 or 4 penalties.

Its similar to Krug. The more minutes they play the more their defensive issues begin to show. Lower minutes, reduce matchups. If I am a coach and I see Chara jump on the ice I am putting my fastest forwards on as well who can skate around him. Its worked pretty reliably this year from what I've seen.

true but if you watched the Jets game (I did) tis not like they broke a sweat last night, looked like they were still on a break

Disappointing game but in all honesty, I thought the B`s would look far more sloppy than they did, I`m exhausted with the distribution of TOI by Butch

I watched part of that game and yes, the Jets weren't even going at three quarter speed in terms of effort.

Ok great those are the 3 picks you take. Now you've just shuffled every teams draft board and every pick after those three is a complete unknown. What does that mean exactly, well the following guys are now potentially not in the system or on the team

Jake DeBrusk
Brandon Carlo
Charlie McAvoy
Jeremy Lauzon
Trent Frederic
Urho Vaakanainen
Jack Studnicka

Oh but it doesn't stop there, now take out every move post the 2015 draft because again its unknown what teams would have done. What's our roster maybe look like now?

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Connor - Krejci - ???
Heinen - Barzal - ???
Kuraly - ??? - Acciari

Chara - Grz
Chabot - ???
Krug - Miller

Rask
???

Then of course there is a crazy concept that a player wouldn't perform the same because its different line-mates, different situations, different systems, different everything. So while you're thinking about those guys and what they are doing for their team now, well that might be different if they were here. They could be better, but could be worse. Look at a guy like William Karlsson, he had 47pts in 165 games for Columbus...he goes to Vegas and has 110pts in 134 games. That's nearly a 300% increase in his P/GP just from going from one team to another.

As you can see its quite the rabbit hole you can go down and wonder about the infinite possibilities of "dreamin" as you like to say.

That's what happens when you try to be the smartest man in the room, even though the answers are right there in front of everyone.

Where does this ridiculous “smartest man in the room” BS come from?

All Sweeney has done since being hired is add to the B’s scouting staff. He clearly believes in the draft and development model and appears to be doing his best to make sure the B’s are one of the well informed teams in the league.

I have spoken to him twice at hockey rinks and even if he IS the smartest guy in the room, he doesn’t act like it. He’s very unassuming and soft spoken. While I’m sure he wishes he could have a “do over” in the first round of 2015, drafting is (and alway has been) an inexact science.

I wish the B’s had taken three of Chabot, Connor, Konecny, DeBrusk, Barzal. Or how about really reaching and taking Aho, who is better than all of those guys IMO?

Bottom line is that they didn’t. Get over it and worry about the players the B’s did draft and how the team can improve themselves.
