Thanks @Ginger Papa for the "Mega Meme" GDT, it was awesome. I had put together another edition of "Learnding With Mac" just in case no one was going to post anything, so I will save it for next year...

What I will post is tonight, the Winnipeg Jets will play the Buffalo Sabres at 7:00pm at Canada Life Centre. The Jets are finally back home after a five game road trip that saw them win two games and lose three. Their overall record is 31-17-1 and they are 6-4 in their last ten games. The Sabres are coming off of a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues and have won four straight games. They have an overall record of 25-19-3 and are 5-4-1 in their last ten games. Will Winnipeg win while Wheeler whips whistling wristers, or does Tage Thompson take torpedo targeting to top team totals? Will @Ginger Papa join our Jets joyous jamboree? Can @RetroWinnipeg really remember or recall rotten Relic? These questions probably will not be answered any time soon...

When, in hollow return from Hashville’s eyes,
HF Jets alone beweep our outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with our artless cries
Regard the then-pooped roster and curse our fate,
Cutting Wheels and Helly slack, more rich in hope,
Yo Jets summon strength, like them with pucks possess'd,
These Buffalo tarts will fade upon gaze of thy scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Away with dark thoughts of losses most despising,
Happily I glance through at this page, and my state,
Like to the Hooslis at game time arising
From sullen ice, sing anthems at heavenly pace;
KFC’s sweet mitts remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

We really need this win but Buffalo is heating up and has some deadly shooters.
I would love to see the Jets score an early greasy goal. Some of our recent highlight of the night style goals haven’t led to additional goals.

Here’s hoping Cole can find the net and Lowry can break his scoring slump.
I’m on my phone so no silly GIFS or memes for me.

My confidence in Bowness is shaken after his lineup decisions last game. If Samberg isn't back in, that will be extremely telling and a negative portent for the Jets going forward. Saku and Stanley should be out for Gagner and Samberg.

I think that is a bit harsh. Bowness said many times that he wants all these guys playing and not sitting out too long as we’ll need them all before long. Injuries are coming whether we like it or not.

I assume Stan is playing again because he’s been out so long. Plus if he was by some small chance part of a trade the other team needs to see that he is healthy. Lots of reasons to play him. We saw pre-injury that the team had settled into Samberg ahead of Stanley.

Increasingly it starts to look like the injuries were saving Bowness from himself:

Breaking up a winning lineup and icing a losing lineup the following game with no changes.

he did have stanley start b2b games prior to his 2nd injury. who knows if he would've continued to start thereafter. Samberg i think has been up and down this year, he's been in a solid stretch of games recently though, but i don't think Stanley has been terrible this year although v few games evidently. it's 3rd pair LD so not v consequential role imo.

It's an interesting point of view. Playing the devil's advocate now: as we may be buyers for the playoff run, is it possible that the current line up direction is carried out with dual purpose eg, win obviously, but also to showcase big Stan? Or is it simply Bones' infatuation with the big man's game?

It matters to me as it gives information on the coach's thought process and hints how he may run the lineup going forward. So far he has shown a massive blindspot for Saku who continues to suck and has never been part of the rotation and now seemingly Stan. His mention about needing size on the backend doesn't make sense either as Samberg is huge, this is not a Stanley vs Heinola situation where size would be relevant.

Maybe but I don't think Bowness is doing and focusing on anything else other than winning the next game. So if he has him in the lineup, my assumption is because he thinks that gives him the best chance of winning the next game. I don't see him as guy who uses a lineup spot to showcase a guy when the team is in the thick of the battle for 1st in the division/west

Stanley has a 100 nhl games to his name. I don't think 1-2 games really move the needle either way. maybe to show he's fully recovered from injury though :dunno:

although i do agree with Saku's placement. i think you're overestimating the difference b/w samberg and stanley this year. saku is far away our worst fwd at 5v5. if you're using xGF% as a criteria which i know you do for Saku, Stanley vs Samberg really aren't far to off in essentially the exact same role (fully aware stanley has played small # of games comparatively).

He'll probably platoon Stan and Samberg - he likely wants them both up and running at full speed in case he needs them both in the lineup at some point - or if one trails off for some reason.
He's already made it clear that he does not want his guys sitting too long - I don't think that makes him a bad coach.

And Samberg is not huge - 190 lbs - smaller than JoMo - (which would make JoMo gigantic?)
He has some height but not a lot of bulk
