I think it is beyond a bad call when the NHL releases a presser that the goal should not have counted.
Also it was with 25 seconds left in the game so not a lot of time to overcome it. The shootout is a friggin crap shoot coin flip that needs to die. I say this fully realizing that in general LA benefits more than most from it.

What happened? I must have missed it.

Did the Detroit timekeeper shut off the clock to give them extra time to score a game winning goal or something?

Good one but not quite. In your example the league looked into and ruled that the clock did what it was supposed to do and the goal was a good goal. Nice try though.

Sounds like the net did what it was supposed to do as well. Kept the puck from heading into the stands.

I'm sure they did & you keep telling yourself that was completely above board.
Don't ask for sympathy from the team that got screwed in that deal. Just take your Stanley Cup victory that it helped secure & be happy.

I agree. The clock stopped because the button was pushed.

Columbus has been playing great hockey recently... really looking forward to the match-up tonight. For some reason our two teams always seem to play each other more physically than others.

Hopefully all the coulombs are in line tonight.

Those clocks are sophisticated instruments that calculate time by measuring electrical charges called coulombs – given the rapidity and volume of electrons that move through the measuring device the calibrator must adjust at certain points which was the delay you see. The delay is just recalibrating for the clock moving too quickly during the 10–10ths of a second before the delay. This insures that the actual playing time during a period is exactly 20 minutes.

Yeah, I guess that's why nobody had ever seen that happen before or since.

I've been a referee & timekeeper for a lot of teams for years, including in an NHL arena, & I've NEVER seen that happen. EVER. The guy screwed up & it may have just been an honest mistake, where he thought he heard a whistle, & nothing nefarious but stop with the B/S because everybody knows what happened.

So...Who turned the "Jan 2012" and "Dec 2013" Kings fans loose on this thread? Do they have any fans from before their Cup year who want to chime in?

Oh I lived through many dark days in the 90's and early 2000's. just cause I didn't join HF boards till 2012 (cup year but before cup run) doesn't mean anything.
Came here wishing you guys well, and have stuck up for the blue jackets in other forms.
Anyway as this has gone sideways I will just leave the Columbus board as obviously there is no room for sportsmanship and laying out simple facts here.

Believe it or not, the 1st-ever NHL team I actually heard of was the L.A. Kings, and that was when before I even arrived here...in America!

Besides, I'm just a hometown fan; seeing how Lumbus is hosting the 2015 All-Star Game and not to mention the positive reviews on Sugardaddy's on various foodie review sites...

On a sincerer note, I have nothing but respect to the Blue Jackets.

Boys, boys, settle down!

Here, I found the delightful Brandon Dubinsky commercial, recorded with a potato.

I keep hoping game day operations will stop playing hideous music.

Probably won't happen until they hire someone new. It's too bad. We have such a nice building and a fancy new scoreboard but our in-game entertainment has always seemed to be lacking.

Bring back Boomer!!!

What is Calvert on, seriously? I winced when he did the first crosscheck and then he did an even dumber one.
