The Flyers have a solid fanbase but they are still 4th in that market and some will argue they are 5th behind the MLS Union. Being owned by Comcast does not help them.

They made a colossal blunder when they erased Kate Smith from their history.

The issue was a song she recorded in 1931

BUT all she did was cover a song made famous by Paul Robeson and most likely was told to by her record company.

What happened was an intern for the New York Yankees stumbled across the cover and NYY stopped playing her version of God Bless America about 5 years ago. Comcast then removed the Kate Smith statue at the Flyers' arena.

I had a long talk with long-time Flyers employees tonight and they all agreed it was a bad decision by the ownership who simply followed the Yankees' lead. It was fueled in part by a popular news anchor at WPVI-TV who was known to hate hockey.

Old-time Bruins fans remember this BUT at the end 2 players greeted her and they were not Flyers

In 2013 I worked on this game and I was bawling my eyes out at the end which is not great for a camera op

I can not hate Flyers fans after that night

@MiamiScreamingEagles - Kate Smith died in 1986 at the age of 79. I just find it wrong that her legacy was trashed over a cover recorded in 1931 that was made famous by one of the leading Black singers of that generation.

I don't blame the intern from the Yankees for flagging it but their ownership should have looked at the total equation.

The Flyers made a mess of it and once Jim Gardener made a stink about it Comcast just erased her. Had Ed Snider still been alive this never would have happened.

Fenway, you are a treasure!

Hubby is sick so we won’t be able to go to the game.

This will be a tough one. Like most of Tortarella's teams, this Flyers group is hard-working, physical, and pay attention to detail. ( These are three areas where the Bruins are sometimes lacking.)
Moreover, Ersson, while not great, is better than the overrated Hart, who Pasta always torches. ...
I hope the Bruin are primed and ready.

Welcome to the Jungle
Have seen a couple of articles now on TSN suggesting trade destinations for Crosby. Sorry for any Crosby haters out there, but surely the Bruins would become instant cup favourites if he came to Boston? Him, Bergeron and Marchand were fantastic at the World Cup in 2016. Also, please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure Crosby and Marchy continue to train together in Nova Scotia. Never mind the need we have for a true #1 centre, and the pedigree Crosby (having one of his best ever years, and he knows how to WIN A BLEEPING FACEOFF) would bring. Nice pipe dream...
Trading Crosby would be dumber than trading Bergeron. Unless Crosby publicly asks to leave ala Bourque then this chatter is silly. Bourque did it to get a cup Crosby doesn’t have that issue.

I know this doesn't go here, but whilst awaiting the game,

If the Bruins want to save some of Jacobs money but letting Edmonton pay for Jake the one guy who would be cheaper and could replace Jake scoring is All Star Frank Vatrano

He’s older by about 3 years but Frank’s still got something in the Tabk

And pretty sure Bruins fans would love Vatrano over DeBrusk

Fully agree. Like many such things the song is a product of its time, and while clearly problematic nowadays one must view it in its proper context. In Smith's case I would be looking at why she sang the song, how she interpreted it, and what her personal views were on race etc. Once you do that it becomes obvious that 'cancelling' her and anything associated with her was grossly unfair and a mistake. But we live in an age of knee-jerk responses and over-reaction, so this is what we get.

May we remind the Philly Flyer Fanatics while deservedly honoring the great Dr. Recchi that the three Cup rings he will be wearing today are from Pittsburgh, Carolina and of course our Boston Bruins. Still sore about Orr not getting one more in '74. F*#@ the Flyers and while we're at it Art Skov too.

Art Skov. Yep.

Don Cherry’s old TV show years ago, Grapevine, he had on Bep Guidloin the coach in ‘74. Bep said in that sixth game the Flyers got away with murder including the call on Orr at the end. That series goes to a seventh game in Boston no way the Bruins lose. Then he said after the game Skov comes up to him and asks for an autographed stick from Orr. Imagine that!

Have a feeling this will be a throwback. Flyers are an ornery bunch. Would expect Lauko, Freddy and Wotherspoon to get some bruised knuckles in this one

Wow, after that Ottawa game, the league is doubling down and having Jake Brenk ref the Philly game too, should be interesting.

I noticed that too, hopefully won't be another Bruins game full of phantom penalties from that clown.
