Chabot retaliation crosscheck to Geekie was so selfish
Imagine doing that in the PO
Anyway I don’t think it’s in the card for this season

Might as well not suit up and go to the casino if you are going to help the team that much

They played a good away game & were in it right to the end until Chabot gave the puck away again. They need to get healthy, all the injuries are adding up. Were injured but came back Amadio, Zub, Forsberg, Chabot & Perron. There are a lot of injuries to players this yr.

Injured Forwards - Norris, Gregor
Injured Defencemen - Sanderson, Jensen, Hamonic, JBD
Injured goalie - Ullmark

On another note, people have said we have no depth yet Sebrango came in & played well in his two games. Matinpalo & Ostapchuk have also been very good & Merilainen came in & was great in net for a number of games. But we need our starters to get healthy & come back to work & when our best players to start putting the puck in the net. They are hanging right in there, but need some puck luck soon.
You must have been watching a different game. They played OK at times, but I never felt that they were playing well enough to win the game.

The scoring has dried up, and our big guns (Tkachuk, Stutzle, Batherson) have been silent for awhile. I knew the scoring had decreased considerably, but hearing that the Senators have been shut out 5 times in the last 11 games really highlighted and put an exclamation point on the problem.

I do agree with a couple of things. We do have a lot of injuries. Sanderson, Norris and Ullmark are most notable. The rest don’t matter that much as depth should be able to fill in. I hope Jensen’s injury is not serious.

The other thing I agree with is this place is on high emo alert after a few losses.

Had we come out of that with a point, it would have been thanks to Forsberg.

That said, they game should have been tied when Korpisalo failed to freeze the puck and Stu put it in. Sometimes shit happens and a bad call affects the outcome, doesn't mean we played well or anything, but despite how bad we played it would have been a tie game with 10 mins to go, or there abouts.

The team looks like it's struggling handling the puck, and is a bit disjointed at times, when that happens, you just got to simplify play meat and potatoes hockey, but instead we're overpassing. Hopefully they can get some practices in and clean things up, but with the schedule leading into the 4 nations tournament, it seems like we won't have a lot of opportunity for that.

Just having a little bit more of offensive ability would give us so many more pts in the standings, even when we don't play good enough to win. Just convert on some chances. That said, we were not very luck last night with 3 posts and the disallowed goal from Stutzle after the whistle. K0rpisal0 also played well.

Chabot needs to exit this team after this season. He brings absolutely nothing to this team. This cannot be the same team going into 2025-2026. I've had just about enough of this decade long drought.

lol Chabot is a very RARE Senators player who drives the play offensively.

Is there really no better case scenario than this? Why is the bar so low?

Unless our aspirations is to be better than Buffalo, this is absolutely concerning... This is the 8th season since Melnyk decided we would go into a full rebuild. Missing or making the playoffs by a point isn't exactly a high bar.

It was a one goal game until the last few seconds, how much closer could it be? Boston only scored one goal as well & we are still 2 pts from 3rd place. Yes, plenty of injuries to our key players & a brutal schedule, these are not excuses these are facts.

To be the best you have to beat the best & it takes your best players to be at their best. If they can win these two weekend games they are right in the thick of things where we wanted them to be rather than already out of the playoffs. Streaky scoring comes & goes & hopefully it comes back soon in spades. All of these negatives are happening at the same time to this team & they are still right in it, imagine what happens when they start getting their injured players back & scoring again, this team will be good.

The "one point out of the playoffs after 48 games" banner will look really nice next to Melnyk's.

We're not that young a team. We've had chances to separate ourselves from the pack. We've failed at every opportunity.

Blow it up? No. But it's reasonable to be frustrated with the last two games, especially considering how the "top" players are performing in the offensive end. This was the year Tkachuk, Stutzle, Sanderson, etc were supposed to rise to the occasion. They really haven't. We're lucky Leevi came in when he did, otherwise it probably would be full blown panic.
Staios does not "panic"; he preaches "patience". HOWEVER, we have been "patient" for years.

Yes. Half the teams do that; make the playoffs each year.

In perspective: we are two pts away from being in 3rd place with 34 games remaining in the season. Two wins this weekend & everything changes, this team is in the thick of a playoff run right now, right where we wanted them to be before the season.

They are playing very well defensively & if there offence can come back along with some of their key injuries get healthy this is a dangerous team to make the playoffs. They are certainly one of the most improved teams & still young.

Agreed that Forsberg played well. He has the last 2 games actually. That disallowed call on Stutzle was a bad call. But, your going to get those in games as refs are human & make mistakes. I don’t fret over that because I think it evens out over the long haul i.e., win some, lose some.

It just wasn’t a big surprise to me that we didn’t win. That’s all I meant. Our offense has been sputtering and is out of sync it seems. Hope for the best & getting back on track going forward. They are capable of it, but they aren’t consistent.

I agree it was a close game. But, I don’t think that was the best game from the Senators & they are capable of better. Injuries are a factor.

My top part of this post might explain things better.

Don't worry guys, they're going to play well for 2 weeks to get our hopes high again until they go back into their shells.

You're forgetting about Tyler Boucher... so that's basically 5 first rounders wasted during a rebuild lmao. It's unprecedented for sure

How can a GM be dumb enough to bungle a rebuild this way? I mean, we have seen this coming from miles and miles and yet we got flamed for being "negative"
When you realize we did a full tear down and we’re only serious participants in 2 NHL first rounds you can see why we are what we are. I think we’re a playoff team. But I think we will get passed by the teams below us and then get passed again by the teams above us that will go into rebuilds.

Started before Dec 14 according to Mike Kelly; Tough January for the Senators but offensive struggles go back farther than that. Results = Ottawa ranks last in goals per game since November 1st (2.38). Process = 15th in expected goals per game (3.14)Differential = 29 goals below expected is most of any team in that time.

I think depth and associated necessary adjustments to hold the fort defensively have played a factor... . I am not against the idea that pressure plays into it but I think they have shown some resilience and the damn only held for so long.. before the results started going against us

It would be good to do a timeline of when we had a full roster with Ullmark and when injuries occurred and what changes resulted and how the team adjusted.

Good point. It’s sickening that we only made bank in 2 of these drafts during all these years (until Yakemchuk who seems like a legit Top-10 pick). 2 out of 6 years…

Seriously, I’d easily let go all of Norris, Perron and Amadio if we were able to sign a guy like Marner or Rantanen… pipe dream but we miss another top guy like that. You’re golden if Tkachuk and Batherson are your 3rd and 4th guys… not 2nd and 3rd

Yeah it’s not all doom and gloom. Staios has to do a great job here.
And exactly. Tkatchuk and batherson should be slotted there.

When were look at Brady to fight, hit, take over shifts, produce offense, play great defence, it’s just setting him up for failure. And honestly stu as well. Ideal stu and tkatchuk are our second and third best forwards

All this doom & gloom & they are only 2 pts out of 3rd place, this has to be the most negative site there is. They have lost their best goalie, their best defenceman & their two way centre along with other good players & yet they are still right in the thick of it. So many on here are not just glass half empty, but completely empty.

Cheer up, there is plenty of time left for the offence to come back along with the injured players to get healthy. The good news is that we have much better depth that a number on here were giving them credit for & they have played well & helped Ott stay in the race. It's not that bad, plenty of hockey left.
