It's an old boys club. To be fair, that's every team.
Yeah but it's the same with the cap. Everybody suffers under the cap restriction. Nobody forced the Rangers to sign bad contracts, but it's the Rangers so they thought they could get away with it because they are the Rangers. And/or they didn't care because they just wanted a team to make the playoffs to please the owner.

The 2011-12 team is nothing the strive towards either. The 8 seed Senators would have skated them off the ice if not for Lundqvist.

The 2013-14 team is what we need to build towards. That team could cycle you to death one shift and score a crazy rush goal the next shift.

Good teams have talent and can grind. It's not one or the other. Since most goals in NHL are scored from hard areas that teams prioritize defending, they really go hand-in-hand if you build your team right.

Again I can’t judge a team that has the worst statistical goalie in the entire league for the month. There is no winning games like that. You are chasing every night. No structure. No confidence. No playing your game or game planning. No feeling good. You have a guy you can’t trust to make a stop and you’re behind almost every night. In the dog days of winter. Forget it. This is on Igor. He’s not playing pooorly. He’s playing literally the worst hockey in all of the nhl. He’s actually playing some of the worst statistical hockey in the last 30 years for the Rangers. So you can piss and moan about Mika or the effort or whatever but no one is going to play well with that kind of goaltending. And it’s going to weigh on you and snowball and everyone will play worse and worse as it continues and it has gotten worse and worse as the year has gone on till we’ve gotten to January and Igor has just completely fallen apart.

So I don’t know what HE needs to do but this is a good talented group of players that can win this division but they cannot do that without decent goaltending. He’s got 10 days to figure it out. And his coach needs to man up and make some actual decisions because this is bullshit not playing quick more and letting this continue.

Brady has been like a moody child this year. Throwing a few temper tantrums, yet doing f*** all to dig Ottawa out of their ditch. He's nothing to be scared about.
That's the player he is, so yeah, that tracks.

I legitimately think people look at the Senators on the schedule and remember things that Matthew Tkachuk did.

He's the good one.

I would too, but the main reason that team was better is we had Henrik Lundqvist in his best year as a pro and this year we have Igor Shesterkin in his worst year as a pro.
the league as a whole was a far better product when there were more fights, more violence, the teams genuinely hated each other and the figure skaters were few and far between

Oh 100%..

My point is that that 2013-2014 team wouldn't have existed without Torts teaching them to play defense.

If that team never had a Torts, I contend that that team looks like this one.

Not disagreeing there. 11-12 was a necessary step towards the final product.

Even with Matthew it took a while. I legit was dubious he could repeat what he did in his last year at Calgary. He hadn't cracked PPG before that year. Then he went to Florida and did it even better.

Complete lack of effort and that G damn extra fancy pass. Keep it simple and shoot the puck FFS.

Bruh.

Standing at the blue line and you want to pass it to the guy streaking on the other side of the ice. Don't we have anyone with IQ enough to say, "Probably shouldn't force this pass through four Vegas sticks and hope for a one-timer".

This team isn’t playing their best but I really don’t think they’re playing as poorly as the record indicates. I think with Igor playing like his capable of they don’t lose most of his losses.

He gives up softies that deflate the team seemingly every game and he also gives up back to back goals to put games out of reach and games turn into chasing two and three goal deficits when they should be tied or down one. It really does something to a team when they’re not getting a save. And make no mistake, Igor is very much in the cross hairs of fault here. The mistakes get magnified when your goalie can’t stop anything. Every team in the league has breakdowns, every team gives up high dangers chances - our goalies just aren’t getting it done right now although Quick was good enough to win in his last start. Igor just hasn’t been good enough. The one glaring issue that is on the team is the rush chances, that has been a complete disaster and needs to be fixed asap.

Tighten coverage for sure but you NEED your goalie to come up with saves when there’s breakdowns. No team can win with goaltending like this. A team built like the Rangers with an elite goalie as part of the equation is not going to be able to do anything at all when the goalie is literally the worst goalie in the nhl for the past month.

Igor stinks, but they never score goals. They had 9 million chances in the first and flubbed everyone.

Frankly, I’m not sure what the answer is either. But I do think people fail to realize the opportunity cost incurred by not acting quickly in these situations.

I’m not necessarily advocating for trading him midseason because you’re not going to have an opportunity to acquire a 1C prior to the playoffs. But the second the offseason begins, Drury needs to do everything in his power to move on from that contact. Even if it means getting poor value back in the deal. Simply moving on quickly will bring more long term value than what you lose out on by selling low. Again, the opportunity cost incurred by holding here is absolutely massive.
He has a full NMC so he can veto any trade.

Also, the 11-12 team got to the 13-14 team by biting the bullet and making a core-shaking trade that made the team both harder on the cycle AND more talented.

Something to think about as we keep sending the same roster out there.

I think we need to bring up Berard and Skyora. I don't care if they're not ready. At least they play the right way every shift. and would give the team some energy.

An idea of for the coach: If your top guys aren't getting it done, lean on someone else! In the first period the Cuylle Kakko thing was working well. They were one of the more effective lines and were playing the right way. When we setart leaning on that top 6 ALL OF THE TIME regardless of how they're playing, we are undermining the team. Stop coaching from fear and make the team fear you ffs.

They’re chasing every game. They’re down before you even blink they’re in a 1-1 game with Cup champs against a goalie up for a vezina right now and blink and it’s 3-1

This is going on all the time confidence is fleeting of course they’re not scoring now

Yeah well, the thing is how are you going to do it with them clauses we have given to the core? We can trade Fox, that's about it.

Quick has lost his last 5 playing his ass off. Our 40 shots a game aren't indicative of "deserve to wins" when the high danger chances are coming from tips in front of the goalie that go wide.

I’m going to guess they do this all practice long and no one objects.

This is a good point as well. Right before the Rangers got good they brought up Hagelin and f***ing left him there. Then they brought up Kreider and left him there. They gave these guys roles and spread the lineup out. Everything is just the same old shit now.
