So commentators, especially former players are above calling out a player when he embellishes a call? He deserved to be called out. He went down like an Oiler forward, not a guy who's 6-2, 240.
Yes.
Or mention it casually with a little tact. Total homer move for an announcer to act so appalled and astonished about a dive. Especially when he's been calling the games for Dustin Brown's entire career. Fox is just SO upset that he just has to "call out" a player.
Yuck. I got the Massengil chills when he said that.
EDIT: Ron and others beat me to the point.
He called him out when it happened. It was a little much showing the clip of Hanzal stay on a feet then emphatically call it a dive.
Is he suppose to act like it didnt happen?
The play was only huge because the Kings couldn't kill the penalty. It's not like it happen in OT.Not really. That play was huge. Especially being a direct result of the goalie mask fiasco. It also looks to me like Tippett working the refs there paid a nice dividend.

Two seasons ago, he doesn't do this.
Unless you've been hibernating since 2013, Fox has radically changed his commenting style, homering more than Babe Ruth the last two seasons. One of the reasons why he was always held in the highest esteem was his absolute lack of bias in calling games.
That's changed, and in a big way.
The funny thing is Dom is the one who initiates the contact. You can see he lowers his shoulder to hit Pearson before passing it.
As long as we're talking about broadcasters, I love that Sean O'Donnell identifies himself as a king even though his biggest accomplishment as a player was with the ducks. He also does a good job with the analysis and is relatively personable on the air. I'm a fan!
