I don’t give a shit what anyone says or what his numbers have been the last couple months, the Oilers will just be a groomsman but never the groom with him as the starter.
You watch

The big defenders are going to say tonight, if this score holds up,

"1 goal"

lol

Which is half fine, but don't let in absolute garbage goals and you might get an OT game or Reg win

The Caps are the Canucks from last year.

-Ridiculous high PDO
-Unsustainably high shooting percentage
-Career best goaltending

I guarantee that the caps will not make any noise in the playoffs, and will be significantly worse next season.
I'm mildly amused that points 2 and 3 are just the inputs for point 1.

Don't mind me.

What I'm worried about is that we always just keep the status quo and hope for the best because we save so much cash, and then one day Skinner wants an expensive new deal and we give it to him

We need to expand our horizons. Give Skinner some real competition.

Yep -- honestly, Philp has been a downgrade on Ryan so far. He hasn't done a single positive thing, and instead of being tenacious on the forecheck like Ryan is, Philp has been tentative. I'd give him two more games, and if he doesn't improve drastically, send him back down and recall Ryan.

Caps still have remnants of a SC winning core though. They were going through the motions last year and still snuck into the playoffs. They're not 31-10-5 good, but I still think they comfortably make the playoffs next year - they have some good prospects coming up through the system.

The trend is that these teams go to the tough areas more, cause chaos, take screened shots more, etc. They don't shoot from bad spots a lot. You need good goaltending to do this b/c you also do not generate a ton.

Yeah, we do ourselves no favors. Our bad starts are usually perimeter play in the offensive end, goaltending worse than shooter tutors, no hits, just waiting for luck to turn our way.

Can't say I agree with this. The Nucks lineup was and still is composed of a bunch of bozos that were getting career best shooting % and frankly several of them hanging around legend pdo 20% shooting percentage. The Caps are good on the ice and on paper. They added fairly astutely to their lineup and we're seeing the results.
They're underlying numbers aren't good. They've been getting great goaltending.

They just going to sign Toews lol

We need to add a good, right shot 4C at the deadline. Philp isn't the answer. Let him be a black ace and get some experience first.

I honestly don’t see a NHL player here, 4th line or not he’s not bringing anything.

his first game up this year was great, his second was bad, and he hasnt impressed in this call up either. Younger isnt always better. He looks like a guy who missed a year of hockey.

Id say that first game was all adrenaline and it wore off since.

He should be in the AHL right now IMO.

He’s also never beaten the Oilers. Are we forbidden from scoring on goalies?

Why are you so afraid of assigning any accountability to Skinner?

This isn't a scrub we're getting goalied by, it's one of the best goaltenders in the league. The guy that's got a save percentage 3.5 (!!!) standard deviations higher than Skinner.

To put it in terms of school grades - if Skinner is getting a C / 60% on his test this year, Thompson is getting an S+ / 120% on his.

Oh yeah, just because you always bring it up - he's making 25% of what Skinner does.

Whether Philp is good enough to stick is TBD and I agree this hasn’t been as good as his prior stint. However recalling Ryan just isn’t the answer. On most nights he sticks out like such a sore thumb as clearly no longer NHL caliber and it’s not like he’s going to improve at this point. Give Philp a run or grab someone off waivers or try someone like Hamblin who has been hot lately and shuffle guys around as needed

Still, I think the idea is to give him a string of games to maybe build something.

If I'm Knoblauch that's what I'd do if I wanted to set the team up for the deadline. Ryan isn't the answer. Maybe we have to trade for that player but we might as well give Philp a look so at least the GM notices

That's always one of the excuses

"You get what you pay for"

They better turn it up some more this period and Skinner better turn into Fuhr if needed
