Panarin plays center deep and then goes up the left wing. Every other player is far behind him. And nobody can skate it and feed it to him. He gets stuck at the blue line with nowhere to go. He needs to dump it around the boards and hope a player is forchecking.

I have experience with this sort of structure (not hockey related). The sad truth of it is while it would make a lot of sense for there to be string pulling, life is a lot more boring and sad than that.

Sather's not orchestrating the on ice tempo of the team. He goes "play that kid with some jam", hangs up the phone, and ponders whether or not to get the country club or the gazpacho for lunch.
