Must be good battle today between two TOP-5 coaches with teams in rebuild mode :thumbu: Good luck to our Coach and guys today!

Just to remind you that the CBJ may finish last and pick 4th.

I think it's most reliable scenario. I'll be 100% ok with Matthew ( not Matthews:laugh:) Tkachuk or McLeod

Not even sure what to think.. thus, no prediction.

Yet I'll be tuning in - for the first period at least.

Imo best case scenario is a OT loss with Jones, Murray, Wennberg and Saad all getting on the scoreboard every game.

I feel bad for Saad, the dude was winning Cups with Chicago and his selfishness costed him. It's like he's our one legit threat, teams just key on him and we are shut down. Kinda like the Nash saga except Saad isnt as good of being a selfish floater.

So where are we supposed to have this conversation? Once again, any posts about the awful environment here are deleted. How's it going to get better if status quo is enforced by the mods?

I dont. He's going to be an offensive cornerstone on one of the youngest teams in the NHL. If 2/3 of our potential top pair defenseman reach their potential things will be looking much different. I've got a feeling as Jones acclimates this team is only going to get better. I can already tell Jones from Saad is gonna get said a lot. Jones does his little drive the zone and gets two or three guys to chase him Saad, Hartnell, Cam basicslly any of our wingers crashing to the net are going to benefit from.

Can't wait until Jones gets his first slapper from the point though, tonight is as good as night as any. .

I agree with this sentiment. Hopefully this team doesn't break his spirit.

I can't see games from Mexico, but after a few games of little effort, they find a way to win: 4-3 jackets in OT tonight. Thank god I have a few phish shows to look forward to this weekend. The Jackets are sadly back to my log in name I choose in 2005: Slackets. :(

I really don't know where "selfish" came in, from what you quoted. He wanted something close to market and I'm not sure they could have paid much as they were also looking for a center - big reason they pushed for AA. I suppose Saad could have been content to Bickell money; but it's safe to say that he's worth more than that.

So yeah, Saad walked into something that no one really saw coming. I figured Bob would be good enough to cover up most of our short comings and make a strong push. Sadly it's becoming very obvious that we'll need more than getting Jones to stabilize this team. Last night we started off brutally slow, which happens a lot. We take too many dumb penalties. We have too many dumb defensive zone breakdowns. Last night we had a couple of brutal ones.

To be honest, we've got enough scoring to be a wild card team. However, we are just giving up way too many goals. We didn't address these issues in the past when Bob was covering up for our mistakes; now they are really obvious since he isn't playing.

Why the book? Well I think we need to do more than some of the small things people are looking at. I hinted at one of them; maybe it's time to look at what you can get for Bob. Perhaps looking at moving Foligno isn't a bad idea either. I suspect he's as nice in the locker room as he is when we see him on TV. I might even entertain moving Dubinsky but that would really hurt our center depth.

The players that are difference makers now seem to be more focused on our young core; the veterans don't seem to be having much of an impact.

This is all way too OT for the GDT tonight - just noticed the thread we are in but I don't really want to delete everything... lol....

I think Toronto is a nice example of what happens with great coaching. That roster is nothing remotely special but they are making strides. I wouldn't be surprised to see an 86-90 point season out of them if they don't do anything drastic at the deadline - although I'm not too sure what I see on their roster that could be described as drastic unless they moved Phaneuf (good long term) or JVR (not sure why they would).

The complaint-post deletions will continue until morale improves

I don't think Edmonton is a good example of what a first round pick could do to a team. Look at all the teams that have picked first besides the Oilers in recent years; Tampa (Stamkos), New York (Tavares), Colorado (Mackinnon), and Florida (Ekblad). All of these teams are currently in a playoff spot, and their first overall picks are huge pieces on those teams. Obviously the first overall picks aren't the only reason those teams are successful, but they play a big part.

Edmonton is not a good example? They have had the #1 pick 4 of the last 6 years!!! My point is that #1 picks do not make a team great.

Jarmo is a better drafter than Dougie. I do not see the relevance of this point.
The point is that at #4 the odds of getting a difference maker are way less than at #1 and the CBJ have an 80% chance of not getting #1 so anyone who is cheering to lose will find out that it may backfire on them. It's better to just go ahead and win if you can.

I have never been so "meh" about the CBJ before.
Don't like taking time out of my day to watch them float. It's just as productive as sitting at home watching youtube all day.

YouTube has a lot of instructional and educational material. Do you think watching the Blue Jackets game will teach how you to unclog a sink? Change a light bulb on your car?

I didn't think so

You're absolutely right. It's theme for big discussion that stellar offense means nothing without at least mediocre defence and good goalkeeper and vice viscera. Of course 1 pick doesn't make a team great, it's because I hope we draft US guy with right character

They did that last year. Look at the "culture" they built in the process.

Lose, win...doesn't matter. Being 30th gives them the best odds to get the player they want.
