He's not from Massachusetts, and isn't projected to go 57th overall. I don't trust Donny there.
That doesn't really tell you much when you consider the fact that Beecher isn't really any good. He's a 1st round pick with a bottom 6 ceiling at best.
He's good enough to play in the NHL.
Vancouver had the 5th pick overall in that draft and took Olli Juolevi, defenseman. He played 41 NHL games for 3 different teams, was then released by Arizona before playing a single game for them in 2023. Next pick in the draft was Matthew Tkachuk. If they really needed a dman, they could have drafted Sergachev, McAvoy or Chychrun. Can you imagine the reaction here if Sweeney made that pick? The two picks before Tage Thompson was picked 24th were Max Jones and Riley Tufte. The pick before Trent Frederic was Lucas Johansen, who had a 9 game career in the NHL.
Point is that the draft is such a crap shoot that its really ridiculous to criticize picks made out of the top 10 or 12 who actually turned out to be NHL players.
