Any contract who's cap hit is so low that if the player is sent to Laval it doesn't count against the cap isn't a bad contract. Primeau's contract isn't a bad contract.

Hughes gave Primeau that contract because he wanted Primeau to focus on hi is development, not short term numbers that affect his contract...plus when Primeau is in Laval he doesn't count against the cap
Plus the longer contract could make it less likely teams claim him if he's down in the next two years as he continues to develop.

It looks that way. But I'm ok with the contract because there was still room for development when he signed it, and Hughes had development in mind with no negative repercussions to the cap or anything else.

I thought that it was a mistake to name him captain this early in his career, Savard or Edmundson would have been a better option, especially on a team that is rebuilding and expected to lose the majority of games.
