GAME 43 - The ship was the pride of the American side..... Oilers 4 BRUINS 0

@Alicat I don't want him traded BUT they can't afford to let him sign with somebody else and get nothing in return.

We need draft picks

They won’t let him sign anywhere else. They’ll keep giving him contracts until he retires like every other player recently

I agree there just isn't enough talent on the team. The more talented players have lost their confidence, which isn't surprising. I believe them when they say that they don't know what is wrong. They will get sick of losing though, just like every other team that goes through a long losing streak.

I am prepared this year, they most likely won't make the playoffs and certainly won't go far. The next three games could make it an 8 game losing streak. We have been so spoiled for years, it had to end. I was so young in the 1970s when they won two Stanley Cups, I didn't appreciate it then. 2011 was a long wait, I just hope I get to see another Cup because the joy was unbelievable and I want more.

@Fenway often mentions that Charlie wants to get the old man one more Cup.

Bob Sweeney was on during the first intermission last night and said they would hold a fundraiser gala to celebrate the family’s 50 years of ownership.

One Cup.

That’s over the course of half of this franchise’s existence.

The old man got his salary, cap, and to his credit has spent to it.

But this isn’t the NBA, where if you load up on superstars and exceed the soft salary cap, you guarantee yourself a trip to the final four. They swung for the fences at the deadline two years ago, and got stung in the first round. That hockey.

If you go the real route of rebuilt you have to trade Pastrnak and McAvoy because they are to good to have on a rebuilding roster and weaken your chance for a very good draft position. They won't do a proper rebuilt though and rightfully so because I think they have the talent but need a new fire and hungriness. Charlie said he doesn't think the market accepts one and he wants to win another Cup for his aging father, that shows the direction the FO wants to go. They should make a retool though. Decide who will be the future core and try to add on it. This means at least Coyle, Frederic and Carlo should be really on the table. Marchand should be approached and asked if he wants to chase another cup and then be re-signed in the offseason. Dont target draft picks, go for NHL ready prospects or young players with potential already in the league. Marchand, Coyle and Carlo could bring the most back. Ritchie + from Colorado for Marchand or Kulich + from Buffalo for Carlo I would target. Carolina, Minnesota, Toronto, Dallas and Winnipeg, maybe even Washington to use the time Ovechkin has left, would also put some very good prospects on the table to go deep in the playoffs. Go forward with the young players you would get and hope that in the free agency in 2026 Eichel or McDavid will sign with team. They would be back on the map of being a contender and Pastrnak, McAvoy and Swayman would still be in their prime.

Surely this idea that the Boston/New England market will not sustain a Bruins rebuild is ridiculous. All the other major Boston teams have gone through periods of being horrible and gone on to thrive again. Bruins fans cannot be uniquely fickle, shallow and narrow-minded, can they? It's an extremely condescending and low opinion of the fanbase on the part of the owners, which perhaps should not be a surprise.

Yes if the franchise goes through a fallow period then attendances, merch sales and general interest will decline, and the Jacobs will make less money. But that's the way of it. They'll pull through and the sun will shine again sooner or later. If the Bruins do indeed face some sort of lengthy rebuilding or wilderness phase, they'll simply need to knuckle down, be patient and plan a way back to the pointy end. Whether or not the Jacobs would still want to be part of that, well that's up to them.
It pisses me off when Jacobs says the fans won't accept a rebuild. Its a small sample set, but every fan I know, would accept a rebuild as long as there is a plan in place. Watching a mediocre team for the next decade is much worse.
Bottom line is that Mr. Burns won't accept a rebuild. he would much rather have a round or two of playoff $$ for the next decade than miss a few years of it for the possibility of having a championship.

There’s the old adage in hockey that you built from the crease out.

I wonder if that’s still true.

The Rangers locked up their goalie. He’s the best in the world, right?

The Bruins locked up their goalie.

Colorado has a pretty loaded team, but goal tendon was their Achilles heel. They completely revamped the position on the fly this year.

Edmonton is loaded upfront, but Skinner remains the question mark for them.

It seems that every Bruins game I watch the results cause myself & Wife to get upset using curse words and blaming players for not performing as they should. The reasoning behind all of this turmoil is because as a Bruins fan we have had it pretty good with the Bruins making the playoffs but now that this season looks dismal and there is a chance they do miss it. Would it be that bad if they did?? My answer is this no, but I would hope that management tries to improve the club by securing draft picks and allowing these draft picks to mature with the team. I still do not understand why Matt Poitras has not been called back up and why they continue to play Johnny Beecher. From what I have seen of Poitras he would have accumulated more points than Beecher based on numbers and those points could result in another win or two. I have come to realize that why should I get upset about the losses or the playoffs because even if they make the playoffs are they going to advance?? Probably not so I am ok with improvements for the future and those improvements are good draft picks.

The “fans” in question is Jacobs bottom line. Let’s face it, Marchand should have been traded for draft capital and prospects last year. Pasta could have gotten a lot back too. Like this team desperately needs a rebuild because even if they right the ship and squeak into a wild card spot, they’re still going to get smoked once they encounter a really skilled offensive team. They don’t have top end talent other than maybe Pasta. A lot of it has to do with poor drafting. That’s on Sweeney.

I do have a feeling that Sweeney is going to be under the gun to keep the playoff hopes alive and will probably deal a first or second rounder for someone who will push them into a wild card spot. I get It, no one wants to be unemployed I just wish that for once Jacobs would be okay with a rebuild and bringing in young high level talent for the future. Sacrifice a buck today to make five tomorrow.

Trades are hard. We'll hear it all Spring. And really moving chairs from the Prominade to the Poop deck does little.

PP and PK are incompetently bad. Leach was brought in for Defense. Mac has regressed a bit as has Carlo. There is no cohesive structure or method.

Who are you targeting for coach - Sacco is a wet blanket. No one behind the bench has done much to suggest they stay.

Gotta see what the kids can do and they play up till the trade deadline. If Pasta and Brad need time, take the time. Speaking of Brad, is he really going to play this 4 Nations thing? I mean really?

I feel like Marchand wants to be a Bruin just like his buddy 37.
I always thought so too, but these days I'm wondering. 37 went out near the top of the league on very competitive teams and arguably had a chance to win a cup his last year. Marchand has to look around the room and think of all the talent and character that he has seen leave and at least wonder if this is the group he wants to go to battle with for the next 2 - 3 - 4 seasons. I think you at least have to have the conversation with him, and present the option(s).

I would like to see an impact trade before we think rebuild.
Don't forget we get Hampus back at some point - hopefully soon. He could make a big difference offensively and defensively.

Last night we saw 3-5 B's standing around our net front without managing to cover one Oiler (WTF?). No stick positioning, no nothing.

I wish the 4 Nations thing would just go the F away.

Trade Coyle
Trade Freddy
Trade brazeau
Trade McAvoy
.........
Attack as you wish but im 40 and would love to see the boys win the cup by 2028-2030
I'm totally sick of Coyle and have never liked McAvoy. Both are overpaid and both under-deliver. PLEASE get them out of here.

Meh...life and being a fan kicks you in the balls sometimes. Mine are still sore from 2019, this pales in comparison IMO. Rebuild, retool, whatever....I'll wait, watch and cheer. Hope I'm around for another 15 years of sucess when it rolls around. We truly saw an epic run.

A rebuild will not happen unless people stop going to the games! If seats go unsold, that will force Jacobs hand, since he only understands profits and losses.

I think it is really time make some moves. Trade Coyle and Frederick for draft picks, put Beecher in the minors and call up the kids. Wahlstrom good bye.

Call up Poitras, Lysell and Merkulov and give them a legitimate chance of staying with the big club. Not 1 or 2 games up and back to the minors. Getting drafted by the Bruins is like an extended period in the minors no matter what you accomplish. These 3 guys are better than a lot of the duds we have now. We cannot keep using the old re-threads.

The playoffs are fading fast so let's try instill some youth on the team.

In addition, we could use the money gained from the trades to try and find a true contributor in the off season. DS would just probably screw it up anyways.

I think you can add Detroit, Ottawa and Poutineville to that question.

Charlie Jacobs is on record that the market will not support a rebuild but now it appears that retooling has failed. They might be able to get a Wild Card this year but then?
An interesting thought experiment.

If you took everything into account (except team valuation -- I'm talking hockey teams not hockey businesses) how many teams in the League would trade straight up with the Bruins right now team for team? And by that I mean existing team, existing coaching staff, existing contracts, existing prospects, etc.

If we are honest, the almost complete dearth of prospects on this club suggests to me that we might find very few takers.

The biggest assets we probably have in the eyes of other teams are Pasta and Bob Essesna.

You trust him to build a good good core? When they hired him alot of key pieces were in place like Chara,Bergeron.Hats off to him adding around it but actually building it from foundation is totally different in my mind. This abomination he built here is pathetic.

He had the opportunity to extend the window with the 2015, 2016 and 2017 drafts
and went 2 for 6. Left Connor, Chabot\Barzal , Kyrou and Thomas.

You're 100% accurate, he was able to fill around the edges of a core he inherited.
