I have tickets to the game on Saturday and now i feel totally bummed about it. Maybe it's because I'm drunk but I feel really upset with mike smith!

I feel like when smith is in the net our team can't score. Smith isn't playing good enough for our offense to win games.

I'm pro-Smith but if Greiss doesn't start Saturday there is a problem. The first and third goals I'm not too concerned about, but the second was the gamebreaker. So many of those types of goals this year where his positioning is abysmal. He looks like he did in Tampa. Which is scary. Greiss needs a couple starts in a row until Smith (hopefully?) gets his game back.

I can only imagine how the rest of the team feels. We came out with a big effort and control the game early. Everyone's feeling good. Then one error and Smith just let's in a softy game after game. I can't imagine anyone has any faith Smith can win a game for us, I certainly wouldn't. Must be hard to play motivated and go hard after the softies start going against you despite your best efforts.

5.7 Million Dollars.

For the next FIVE years.
Oooo yeah, that stings. We're essentially rolling a 5.7mil backup goaltender right now.

This team plays so much better in front of Greiss, we've all witnessed it.

Come on, most of us knew Smith was crap going back to last year.

He really only had one good year here.

"@azc_mclellan: 4-1 loss the final for #Coyotes. Smith now has only three wins in his last 17 starts."

that's pretty much it. I won't blame him for tonight because you need goals but I will blame him for last Saturday.

Living in the east I get to watch a bunch of Sens games and hear a lot of how their team plays as one of my best friends is a Sens fan. Remember Craig Anderson's unreal performance last year? Well this year he started off absolutely terrible, so they threw Lehner in the net for a couple games. Lehner played great, Anderson was forced to step his game up or lose his starting job. At one point Anderson had a 3.42 GAA and .897 save percentage. To compare, Lehner had a 2.54 GAA and .925 save percentage. Lehner finally slipped up and let in 5 goals against Boston. Anderson got the start the next game and he has now gone 5-0-2 in his past 7 games and the Sens have gone on a tear.

Anderson is our Smith. He had his one good year, and is struggling. Lehner is our Greiss. Came into the season as a backup role, but has played more than well enough to get starts. The thing is, Paul Maclean had no problem throwing Lehner in there with consecutive starts to make Anderson sweat. Tip on the other hand has yet to do that. Greiss needs consecutive starts to make Smith sweat. Maybe then Smith will step up his game, and we'll go on a tear like the Sens have once they got their starter back into form. Or maybe Greiss plays well in consecutive games and wins the net for awhile and we go on a tear with him. Either way, I'd like to see the Ottawa situation unfold here. Greiss needs 2, 3 maybe 4 starts in a row like Lehner got.

I'm not a "Smith defender" and I'm not in support of making Greiss the #1 Goalie (as some of you want to see) either. If Greiss was #1 Goalie material than San Jose would have kept him over Niemi a very long time ago.

I still stand by my decision to look more at management as the problem here.

Greiss does not 'have to become the starter' in order to get two / three consecutive games so Smith can work on his game without nightly setbacks in game situations.

This sounds like a good idea JT

Agreed, but still, such a decision would have to come from management. If anything, I remembered Dallas Stars Fans complaining that one of the things they didn't like about Tippett was his inability to start the backup goalie when needed and rode the #1 goalie too much.

It could be management like you say AP. Probably the thing that makes me the most angry is nothing is being done besides sending people up and down from the AHL.

And I 2nd JT's idea.

Exactly. In the playoffs and down the stretch I obviously still want Smith in net. But his game needs some serious work right now, specifically his positioning on opposition forwards coming down the right wing IMO.
