I know the wings have a a harder schedule on paper than the others, but currently, after 42 GP, I would suggest they are in the thick of things and not sitting too bad, and certainly no worse than last year from a standings perspective.Yeah, I think it is still unlikely for us to make it, with so many teams in front of us and near us. 7 Wins in a row and we are still only 7 pts ahead of last in the Conference. Lalonde really screwed our season.
At least we are playing like a hockey team though and not whatever we were doing with Lalonde.
The WC 1 and WC2 spots are occupied by as below, and none of the teams in front of the wings are more than 3 games over 0.500 (the wings are 2 games over 0.500). There is a lot of hockey yet to play, but of these competing teams, only the wings are playing 0.500 hockey on the road.
If the wings simply keep playing hockey and have no multi major injuries, they should at the very least be playing meaningful games come April. They need to hold at home and if they can, become the road warriors they flashed on occasion last year in the 23 road games left.
40 games left, if they can do a 6-4 pace the rest of the way, they might have a good shot at a spot (92 points). Last year at this point, although the wings were 5 games over 0.500, they were actually further out of the picture and had only played 2 more road games than this year at this point.
I agree, now that the guys are playing f----g hockey, I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the season! 14 games to the break, with some tough road trips in there, we should see what the team is by then.
