Sharks spend too much time in their own zone. It leads to turnovers and it just is dumb. If you're going to pass, it needs to go forward.
I’ve noticed when the Sharks retrieve the puck in the neutral zone and then retreat to the top of their d-zone the d play patty-cake with each other and the forwards just stand in place at the opposing blue line with only one creating a passing lane. Only option then is to either hit the moving forward creating a lane - which our d can’t do that - or throw a hard pass to the stagnant forwards for a tip-in and then forecheck… more often than not the d just make an unforced turnover though lol

I don’t think Eklund likes Ferraro.

Yeah, the breakout system, I think, is to fly the zone looking for a stretch pass up the strong side boards, or a stretch up center ice to the weak side winger - also the center is going vertical often for a closer option. The idea i guess is to get the puck out of the zone quickly and try to get a chip off the stretch so it's deep, or if there's space, maybe someone can carry in cleanly.

However if the immediate go-vertical isn't there, then the D are getting better at being patient and going D to D until a cleaner pass or pass-to-chip is open. Generally good since it means we possess the puck a bit more instead of just grenading it out of the zone... The downside is that the wingers have already flown the zone, and either by design or by 🤷, they stay on the boards looking to be an option for a board tip/chip. We have about two forwards with enough skill, speed, strength to carry the puck through the NZ (Celebrini, Granlund when he's the good version) so it's less often that the team is trying to possess the puck all the way through to zone entry unless it's one of those two. That's what I see anyways. There are obviously variations. It's definitely a system thing though, what you're describing.

And that goalie was Wade Flaherty ...

Back in some of the oldest NHL video games with create-a-team in the early 2000s I used to try and make teams out of players born in various provinces and states. There was an extended period in which Flathery was basically the only option I had for starting goalies from British Columbia. Him or Jason LaBarbera.

Thank god for Carey Price for a while.

I’ve been critical of this all season. The forwards have been atrocious at coming back and helping the D.

First time I've seen beanie dead last, but I thought he had an OK game so I guess we just played real good as a team?

I thought Thrun was playing quite well (at least defensively) so it's good to see confirmation of that. More than anything, he just seemed to be making confident play after confident play, which is especially impressive against a team with as much talent as Tampa.

I don't think anyone is expecting a world-beater out of Thrun, but some of these games lately have been at a level that could (eventually) make him an NHL regular, even for a team not as bad as this one.

Didn't watch the game and this was the result, I'll come back when they lose again haha. Superstition is strong right now.

Good for Vlasic to come back and have a win right away. Also Askarov is truly the goalie we need for the future domination.
