I never wanna hear how Mack has a better supporting cast ever again lol
Eh to be fair if Eklund was in the lineup there’s an argument

i'm ready to relive the glory days.

serisously, he may not be able to make all the plays anymore but he still does at least have defensive awareness. so many of our D have atrocious awareness.
I’d settle for mediocre, which in the sharks current state is the glory days

Boys just didn't have it tonight. Celebrini's line was the only one that could manufacture much of anything but even they are doing that in spite of blue line puck movers. The entire top four in ES TOI are not NHL caliber puck movers. Even someone as great as Celebrini is going to have a tough time sustaining offensive pressure when they can't be relied on to make the play with the puck. The blue line still has quite a long ways to go.

Georgiev admitted that the Seeler goal was a "bad goal, unlucky goal".

Says he feels like his game is close to where he wants it, and in fairness to him, after the Seeler goal, he didn't get a lot of support on either end of things

Ultimate team player 😂

Sheng has a case of optimism

I realize that the coach can't just say "my players suck, that's the problem", but I really don't enjoy coaches rolling out the "we gotta play more desperate" stuff. Grit takes you only so far.

I'm a big believer in that there's only so much any coach can do in professional sports and after that it's up to the players to perform, but what concerns me about this team is that I don't see any sort of trajectory where you can say they're getting better at anything. Blackwood was hiding a lot of flaws.

The key problems are that we have a non-NHL-quality goaltender, an entire defensive corps of seventh defensemen, and are playing at least one line of 14th forwards every night and with the rest of the lineup at least one line higher than they belong.

Guys like Ferraro, Ceci, Wennberg, and Kunin should be bottom pair/line guys, playing 16 or 10 minutes a night. Guys like Rutta, Thrun, Goodrow, Grundstrom, Dellandrea, and Sturm should be playing no more than 30 games a season, when someone else is hurt. Most of these players will not have a guaranteed NHL contract when they leave the Sharks - they're just plain not good.

The fact that we've even had a chance to win any of these last bunch of games is the surprising thing, not that we're as bad as we are.

I think Wennberg is a pretty good 3C and Sturm is a good 4C. I think our defense — particularly without Walman — is so bad at moving the puck that it stunts the entire flow of the game. I think can’t transition well and we can’t get the puck out of the zone well and even IN the offensive zone, the D isn’t keeping the plays alive (unless it’s Walman or Liljegren and now a bit with Muhk) so it makes everyone look far worse.

We DESPERATELY need Walman back and for Muhk to keep developing and ideally taking a spot on the 2nd pairing sooner than later.

But this is why it’s important really kind of important for us to get Schaefer. Having Schaefer, Dickinson and Muhk goes a long way into solidifying our future.

This is why I'll on the die on the hill that Grier has mandated that Warso start Georgiev every game except for one side of a back to back.

I think he's been dead set on Schaefer since the season started, and the Sharks got a little "too good" in late November which might have jeopardized their shot at 1OA and maybe even a top 4 draft spot if they continued to play well, so he traded away Blackwood right then and there (Dec 2, instead of closer to the trade deadline) and instructed Warso to start Georgiev all the time except on a back to back, knowing that even if the Sharks play well, Georgiev would still lose most of the time. And that Warso is complying because he's on board with the rebuild plan, and this isn't a Chicago Wolves playoffs vs. Carolina Hurricanes situation.

I think Sturm is a plug and I've thought that for more than a year now.

We do desperately need defensemen worth a damn, but we desperately need literally everything, so...

Sturm has had decent games and he's decent in the dot. Last night he and everyone looked completely toothless. For a big fast dude he sure gets knocked off the puck a lot.

I don’t know if I’d ever call Sturm fast. He handles the puck only slightly better than Goodrow.

Goodrow should be in Europe and Sturm is fine on the 4th line but probably should be a 13th forward.

Other than Celebrini, I wouldn't call anybody on the team fast.

Kovalenko is pretty fast. But yeah, agreed.

I actually don’t really think this is true. I don’t think a guy like Grier or a guy like Warsofsky very “actively” tank.

I think last year, if you looked at the roster in the summer — with Hertl, Couture and Granlund down the middle (but a terrible defense), I think Grier was expecting a bottom 5 team that could be watchable but still get a high pick. Injuries (plus terrible defense and guys like Hoffman, etc., probably coaching) sorta ruined that.

I don’t think he traded Blackwood because they were doing too well - I promise you he’d love it if the team shocked everyone and made a playoff run. It’s not only good for his rookies, it’s good for his career. He traded Blackwood because Grier sticks to his vision even when it’s painful. A 2nd and Kovalenko is a fantastic deal for Blackwood who he wasn’t going to sign, he took it while the offer was standing.

Georgiev is being played because they don’t want to throw Askarov to the wolves but I suspect he’s quickly going to take the starting role here.

i know it's not realistic to just claim everything that goes on waivers but would've been nice to have grabbed Fabbro and Puljujarvi since we still have major depth issues and those two would've raised the team average a bit.

Yeah even if pulju is no better than the second coming of kostin, that's still better than like half our forwards.
