Also a hit on the puckhandler is now a penalty. Not a fan of either team, just a neutral fan watching.
Thought it was a tad absurd to let Calgary get away with six men on the ice at the end there after calling Vegas for four penalties in about 10 minutes or so....
Yeah like tackling a football player gets you a penalty for unnecessary roughness. That was a brutal call. Didn't the refs get the memo that no one like All-Star Game conditions? Also a hit on the puckhandler is now a penalty.
Reality strikes. VGK just aren't quite as talented top to bottom as Flames but are close enough to be competitive. If LT can play consistently like that the net is his to keep.
I don't agree with that at all. I think Vegas is the more talented team. What Calgary has that Vegas lacks is size to go with their skill players. They have guys who go to the net and make life hard on goalies. Not one of our top 8 forwards does that. Our best options in that sort of role are Howden and Roy. I've been bemoaning that fact for 3 years now and it's the biggest reason the PP still isn't good.
And that was with Tuch & Pacioretty.
Tuch would be that player right now.
As far as the powerplay is concerned, that would certainly help but Vegas is severely lacking shooting talent on the powerplay. Vegas’ shooting efficiency drops significantly on the powerplay. Many players have accurate but weak shots and/or poor one timers. This aspect is comparatively more critical on the powerplay when the goal is to essentially take advantage of the goaltender out of position. Vegas loses time with slow shots and releases. During even strength the faster pace causes the shooting angle to change naturally so there’s less of a need to distribute, one-timer opportunities are infrequent, and momentum makes shot power less crucial.I don't agree with that at all. On the powerplay Eichel and Stone have no one to pass to. As horribly inaccurate as Pacioretty’s one-timer was they don’t have any better options. The lack of intimidating options causes defenders to swarm the crease. I doubt that even Kreider would maintain his production in that circumstance, their defenders are stretched out to cover Zibanejad and the goalie has to respect the shooter. Stone is good enough for that role but he doesn’t have enough breathing room in my opinion.
I think Vegas should acquire a player but giving Brisson a shot could certainly help.
I disagree Kessel and Marchessault are not threatening at all. There’s a 99% chance Kessel won’t take take a one-timer and Marchessault is statistically one of the worst powerplay finishers in the league. No reason for defenders to unclog the net and until that happens net front goals/screens will also happen less. Point shots are low percentage especially with the net clogged. Wrist shots don’t work as well on the powerplay. If we had a net front guy like Marchment who I really wanted to make room for this summer Eichel/Theo and Petro/Kessel/Marche would be the shooting threats. You don't need to have one of the leagues best snipers to have an effective PP. Having a net front guy that can score isn't just an issue on the PP either. That's what does them in 5on5 in the playoff failures too. This team is too reliant on the rush to score. Once they get in the zone no matter the coach it's too much on the perimeter. We've got good enough shooters in Eichel/Marche/Kessel/Theo/Petro that a little chaos in front of the opposition goalies would do a lot of good.
