I'll give the team one thing, they sure can clear out an arena quick.

Player call ups have to happen. Golo goes in. Paliotta/Kukan/Falk. Rychel.

Definitely start CMac Friday.

One glaring thing about Richards during his presser was, Porty asked about bringing in CMac for the struggling Bob during tonights game, and Richards said it hadn't crossed his mind. That to me is alarming in itself.

It was clarified that it was whether he had thoughts to have CMac start the third. And even if he did consider it, HCTR's philosophy is to not throw struggling players under the bus.

I think you've got to get Boll out of the lineup. Part of the team's problem is that they've been gassed late in games, and having a guy getting less than six minutes of ice time means that the others have to play that much more. I'd get Rychel on the second line and move Bourque to the fourth.

Honestly though I just want to see something, anything being done. Talk about knee-jerk reactions all you want, but when someone hits your knee with a hammer, your leg is supposed to move a little.

I came into this thread expecting it to be far worse. It will be interesting to see what happens from here. Are there any veteran UFA d-men on the market? Did Hejda sign anywhere? He can't possibly be worse than what we have.

Bourque is on the fourth line...

I don't get the disdain for Boll, personally ... in fact, of all of the players that have appeared in more than one game (so, excluding Wennberg), Boll is one of only two (Dubinsky) that aren't carrying a minus rating.

I realize that he's playing extremely limited minutes and there are definitely better options, but it's hard to think that removing Boll is a strong place to start the turn-around.

I think sitting someone that has higher expectations is a better way to send a message to the lineup. Sit Bourque, or drop Johansen to the fourth line. Send a message to the entire team ... not to the resident enforcer, who hasn't played enough to cause the team any real grief. Once you get everyone playing better, then you can start to nitpick the fourth line goon for his lack of contributions.

This team will not make the playoffs. Period. changes or not they're broken this year.

I think the biggest thing is I feel that we are stuck right now with the roster we have. How does a trade happen when we have so many bad contracts at forward? We have what 7 or 8 million tied up in Clarkson and Borque. I'm deflated, and with the contracts that our forward core has, I just find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Everybody knew our defense was going to be bad, but I didn't realize we would get zero secondary scoring and god awful goal tending.

In two years, the fourth line has gone from a significant strength to one of the worst in the league, and it costs about four times as much as it did. It's older, more beaten up, provides less offense, less defense, and...well, I can keep going.

I suspect JD and Jarmo spent some time tonight discussing Richards future. It wouldn't shock me if we here news tomorrow morning that a change is going to be made.

That would be a fun meeting.

"Should we call up a defenseman?"
"Nah."
"Can we go back in time and sign an actual UFA defenseman like Franson or Ehrhoff?"
"Nah."
"Should we take a look at one of the guys who actually was signed?"
"Nah."
"So rather than address it in the offseason, or in training camp, or right now, what exactly should be done?"
"Better just fire the coach instead."

Genuinely curious... does CG bring something dramatically better than the bottom pair at this point?

Absolutely. He's probably the best defensively of the three. He doesn't have the shot that Cotton does, but he uses his stick really well defensively and his outlet pass is probably better than anyone on our d-squad right now, except for maybe Murray, but Murray is making a lot of mistakes. Cody is a quiet player and doesn't do anything fancy, but he generally makes good decisions, and can execute on those. When Prout tried lifting the puck out of the zone only to put it into another player three feet in front of him... ugh... If Prout never had to touch the puck, he might be decent.

I didn't watch the whole game, but there might have been two goals that Bob should've had (when Hartnell fell and when Foligno was tripped) which were both late goals anyway. Others were turnovers and defensive breakdowns right in front of him.

I say sit Cotton and Prout, bring up Paliotta, sit Boll, bring up Rychel.

Jenner - Johansen - Atkinson
Saad - Dubinsky - Foligno
Hartnell - Karlsson / Wennberg - Calvert
Rychel - Campbell - Bourque

And I've I said many times before, stop treating Murray like he's a number one d-man after less than one season worth of games, and stick with pairings that worked for us during the run last year.

JJ - Savard
Tyutin - Cody
Murray - Paliotta

Worst start in the history of miserable starts.

Gotta note that Scott Hartnell improves like the wine. Very powerful introduction this night also. Fantastic season so far for him. Sure, one skate slipped but it surely would be too much to ask if he would handle that sector as well.

Everybody wants to blame HCTR. But don't forget it was KEK that assembled this train wreck. Our PK surely misses Letestu. And his utility to play up and down the lineup was clear. The Campbell signing was a huge mistake. No big fallout on the Boston boards when the signing announced.

KEK made an unwise investment IMHO when he chose A forward over a DMan. My guess is the market was not there in a value for $ proposition in FA. Of course that was all started by not miving up to select a dman #3 in the draft.

Maybe we can entice Werenski to drop out of school? Instant roster spot?

I realize the context and Richards not using media to call out players, but to not pull Bob after the 4th, 5th or 6th goal was kind of throwing Bob under the bus. Remember the Patrick Roy situation in Montreal?
I'm not saying it is the same, but Bob saying he has no confidence after game is telling.

Anybody still believe the 15-1-1 finish that probably cost us Hanifin (who signed and last I saw was in the NHL) was very important to the on-going success of the franchise?

The Jackets are just like the browns. They will win when it doesnt matter anymore and just end up screwing themselves out of a better draft pick. Both teams have done it for years.

Agree 100%.

It's the 4th or 5th time the CBJ has finished strong, cost itself a position or two (or five), built expectations, then showed that strong finishes in meaningless games don't mean much (or as the great Shania Twain said - that don't impress me much lol).

Now difference this season is we do have some talent - so the season is not lost, but bob has got to get going and we need changes on D. Likely can't swing a trade but call some kids up, bench/sit some vets and other youngsters and at least find 6 guys who want to play hard each night. Again until Bob gets going it doesn't matter, but he usually always comes around.
