No one in front of the net, all the fowards on the outside or behind the net on that Dubinski shot.

If we want to generate offense we're going to have to rely on our defensemen I think. Our forwards aren't skilled enough to carry the play through the opposing team. They'll need to be causing chaos and sweeping up the garbage.

I didn't think this before the season, but I gotta say I think we'll finish bottom 5 with the way our offense looks. Yes, I get the "score by committee" and "outwork the other guys to get goals" mantras, but at a certain point you need players who know wtf to do with the puck in the offensive zone, regardless of whether or not you outwork them. I haven't seen that ability to put the puck in/be in the right spots in any of the games this year, and I fear that's gonna be how it is. Hard work can only get you so far.

I don't know. I think they have enough offense from defensemen that if they utilize it... lots of these forwards put up their points off rebounds i think- foligno, dubinsky, umberger. they sure didn't get them by sniping goals...

RyJo seems to be the only one trying to force himself into areas... Really liking his game this year

Couple of questions.

1)Do we stick with this roster and see where it takes us? It's going to take us nowhere but I'm wondering if Howson/JD would make a trade to shake things up. Lots of other teams that are suppose to be good that are struggling, maybe trade with them? Too early to panic?

2)So far this season, how long have we had the lead for?

Still think the power play is the only area they consistently look fairly competent.

That's our only hope, but I still don't like the way these guys position themselves. Apart from Johansen and Atkinson (who is scratched? injured? idk I got here late) I don't see anyone who is really gifted offensively. Everyone seems to have stone hands and half a brain in regards to where they are on the ice. I also don't see them creating space and shooting lanes for our point guys to get a good shot to even get a rebound in the first place.

Maybe I'm being a bit too negative, but I just think the only goals we can get are ones that just happen, instead of having a plan on how to use our lack of offensive ability in the right way (is there a right way?).

Right now, dead last in the NHL is occupied by Los Angeles and Washington.

By my reckoning, it will take 56 points to guarantee a playoff spot. That comes out to 14 points every 12 games. So no, don't panic and do something stupid.

Going forward i would keep most of the guys, get rid of some of the older 30+ up guys because i think there is alot of young talent on the team and in the system it just needs playing time and developed

i think atkinson is scratched. agreed though, they aren't screening the goalie or making shots from the back end hard to stop

Getting way ahead of myself but lets say at the deadline, a team comes calling for Prospal, do you trade him? Or with the gentlemen's agreement between Howson and Prospal, pass up on all offers? I guess the best would be, ask him if he wants to get dealt to a contender and then come back to Columbus after. Hell, maybe Prospal wants to break the gentlemen's agreement after experiencing this gong show.

I doubt many would argue about not doing something stupid :sarcasm:

We already knew we had weaknesses (offense, in net, whatever else you care to mention), and they haven't gone away.

If there's a struggling team out there with an abundance of skilled forwards, and a paucity of gritty third liners, I hope they think the Jackets are sexy.

To be completely honest, and it's nothing against him as a player, I don't see how having Adrian Aucoin on this team is helping when we have so many defensemen eager to earn a spot on the team. There could be any number of guys who could play a role in the future of this team who we are missing out on by playing this guy. He's a decent enough player, but I think David Savard would serve us better in my opinion.
