The McKegg abuse is reaching meme levels. He’s a replacement-level fourth liner, which is fine. I guess everyone wants the Hartford guys because there’s potential upside, whereas McKegg is what he is. The team is in first place and trying to stay there, so the coaching staff is going to go with known quantities like McKegg. And it’s not like the organization isn’t already looking to the future. What’s the average age of the lineup, like 25? You can’t just plug in a bunch of 21 year olds and fast sim through the bad part.

I think McKegg is below replacement 4th liner level at even strength.

Rooney is who I think of when I think average 4th liner and he's leaps and bounds better than Kegger.

Rooney Reaves Hunt is a very good fourth line. The lineup is definitely hurting without Laf, Goodrow, Hunt and Blais.

It really is. I don't mind McKegg as a 14th forward, I just don't want to see him out there when everyone is healthy.

Gonna be doing a libero on two guys tonight. Want to see Panarin get back to making better plays with the puck. Want to see Trouba get back to his early season ways (feel like he's been even shakier than Miller recently).

Posts like this are part of the reason GDT's are getting to be unreadable. The same people come in and just make post after post about the guys they hate. Don't like Chytil? Great. You do you. But the kid is on a 3 game point streak and hasn't been on the ice for a goal against in that span. Try being a fan of the team rather than an opponent of one of the players.*

And to be fair--it isn't just you, and there are others who are FAR worse, but I literally don't bother with the game day threads much anymore because of the sheer number of people on here who would clearly rather shit on their least favorite player (regardless of how that player is performing) rather than cheer on the team.

Yup, let’s sit Chytil who’s on a 3-game point streak (and has been getting better in each of these games) and instead let’s put Greco in his place (who’s way down pecking order - below even a bunch of other AHLers) because it’s a nice story. Dumb posts are dumb.

Hot damn, that's a big, heavy forward group for the Rangers and the cryers aren't known for their defensive skills. I'd like to see us forecheck the f*** out of them no matter what.
Even the D is top heavy with Braden joining Troubs, Lindy, and Nemeth. And if ever Miller puts on his big boy pants, we will have an intimidating blueline.

IMO Rooney is somewhat (not much but still) is above replacement. Pretty solid and is able to fill in on 3rd line in a crunch.

And posts like this are a huge waste of time...
Posts praising or criticizing players, coaches, FO or the league are why we r here
It begins debate and dialog as it should
Post like yours criticizing another poster are just boring..

Is Gallant really going to give McKegg and Reaves 3rd line ice time?

I honestly like Gettinger Barron Gauthier. Hopefully they can get a goal

So since some posters want GDT positivity I'm always happy to help out.

NYR are in first in the division despite missing out star goalie for almost half the season so far.

We have a Vezina caliber goalie in net.
Miller has improved greatly this year. Still big mistakes, but he's been great on balance.
The Penalty Kill is in 'my God' territory, I don't think anyone expected it to be this good. 10th ranked PP and 3rd ranked PK.
We've given up the 2nd least goals per game in the league. Gallant deserves a ton of credit for installing a system that has bolstered the defense.

And the biggest thing- as I've said dozens of times so far- NYR are preventing rebounds, screens, and deflections, which are the best ways to beat an athletic undersized goalie. NYR's defenders and Gallant deserve a lot of credit for Shesty's success. They're playing to his strengths- he's very tough to beat clean.

I'll counter you with we suck 5v5. :sarcasm:

This team has lightyears more potential than Hank's team though. If Hank was almost good enough to carry us to a Cup, this team in theory should be able to win one.

and it might be taboo but I think Shesty is better than Hank, potentially speaking

Criticizing is fine. There are people here who seem to watch the game solely to spot the one bad play amidst an otherwise good game, just so they can make a dozen posts railing over that bad play. Posters who aren't fans of the team as much as opponents of their least favorite player. It's absurd.

I'll add that they seem to be doing a better job of clearing the crease in front of Shesty, too. This is just based on watching the game, but the D seems more invested in owning that space over the last few games (and Trouba never should have been penalized for doing it in the last game).

What I see that makes him standout, is that you don't be beat him on odd man rushes. As long as the guys in front, don't allow the cross ice/backdoor pass,... he will stop whoever has that clear lane to the net.

Not taboo at all. I think Shesty is more level than Hank--he doesn't have Hank's peaks and valleys through the season. I haven't seen Shesty go "God mode" yet, though. There were games from Hank where every other save was a "how the eff did he just do that" kind of thing (I don't remember the year, but there was one game against Dallas where, at the end of the game, I remember thinking to myself that I would never see another goalie performance like that again. Like, THAT good). In the long run, it might come down to durability. That's the only thing that worries me about Shesterkin. If he can stay healthy, he has all the potential in the world to be the best goalie in team history at the end of his career.

Philly must be thinking rebuild sooner rather than later. Not winning and plenty of guys in their 30s.
They got attractive young pieces in the NHL. They shud probably trade giroux and get back a good amount of assets rather than blow anything up.
