I mean I feel like there is something to be said about common sense. You have 5 guys on the ice, you see 3 of your teammates at the blueline with the play behind them, you probably shouldnt be shooting to the side boards giving up prime real estate and spatial coverage, system or not

Oh i completely agree, common sense definitely but this is part of learning to play defense which sadly Key has only what 4 years of experience? But i blame coaching more. This shit should be drilled into these kids heads, players just skate off on whims and have no idea where to go. A system makes them know where to go and is drilled into them so that its second nature to be in the right places.

Laffy actually hasn't looked bad this game, but Vesey and Chytil have been pretty meh. Vesey just isn't as engaged as he needs to be for some reason right now. Chytil is lacking confidence and is not great in his own zone. Laffy has looked the most coordinated and dangerous. He's moving his legs much better. The one thing I'd like from him -- if he knows he's not going to get to the D on the forecheck, take a path to cut off the pass as he goes in. He's often on the wrong side of the defender and os when he goes for the hit, he's not effecting the play unless it's a long term effect of pounding the D.
