When Eklund gets back:

Zetterlund-Celebrini-Smith
Eklund-Granlund-Toffoli
Kunin-Wennberg-Kovalenko
Goodrow-Sturm-Dellandrea
Yeah, that’s about right.

Still, I’d like to begin filtering the cuda kids up. Cardwell got a look. Gush got a look. Brody got his look last year. Graf has earned a look now that he’s had time to play against men. Even bystedt could get a Taste.

I wouldnt mind a few cagnoni games too, though I suppose that will have to wait until ruuta and ceci are dealt.

It’s a bit early to get the ahl turnstyle flowing but I hope it stars before the TDL. I believe those tasters pay dividends down the line as a benchmark target.

You could, but I think Granlund and Toffoli are a good match.

As for Goodrow, I'm just trying to be realistic... no chance he comes out of the lineup.
Then bury him in a 4th line and pk role for 8-10 mins per night. He cannot be on a top 9 spot with linemates expected to contribute offensively.

The best way to describe Georgiev is leaky.
His defense screwed him on both those goals as well, yet somehow goes unblamed. Did he bail the team out on either? No, but that was the worst power play ever. The fifth goal was terrible goaltending though.

I've been told that doesn't happen here.

You aren't wrong. I've said it before, but many of the goals Georgiev gives up are not atrocious goals...you can generally find some way to justify it and defend Georgiev. But NHL goaltenders have to make some of those saves. They have to find ways to make most of the big stops, and even a few of grade A chances.

Oh please…
Picture 1: Wennberg’s last stride. He is in line with Dorofeyev and can take away the middle… but he stops skating.

Picture 2: No more strides and a weak stick at the body that does absolutely nothing. The kind of weak and lazy play that gets some players stapled to the bench.

Georgiev is bad. We all know this, but if Wennberg doesn’t quit, Dorofeyev is less likely to score.

The goal is to finish dead last and maximize your chance of getting the 1st overall pick.

Grier knew exactly what he was doing by acquiring Georgiev and making sure he plays.

To be honest, and I know you guys will hate to hear this, but you should re-sign him for one year and tank again next season.

If the hockey Gods somehow gave you Schaefer + McKenna to go with Celebrini, Dickinson, Smith, Askarov, etc…. you’d be primed for an absolute dynasty run.
Nah, can't re-sign him at any price. He'll perform his appointed task this year and then be sent back to Russia, who will refuse to allow him back in.

I'm not defending Georgiev on those goals, but for Christ's sake, they got behind our team twice on the same power play. Spread the hate around.

To be honest I feel that even though the talent is still not even close to playoff caliber, it's more of a mental thing right now. It's also that damn Vegas. When Sharks one day figure out Vegas, they'll go on and win it all.

is starting georgiev over askarov is the closest thing the sharks have done to deliberate tanking in franchise history? I kind of think yes. Askarov is miles better already, if we were trying to win, we would obviously play him, no?

(More hopeful alternative: Maybe we're hoping for a bounce back to re-trade him at the deadline? Can you believe he was a 2024 NHL all-star? Maybe there's something still there?)
Well, there was last year's entire roster

The veterans are deferring to an 18 year old when the time comes to close out a game. Mack can only play so many minutes.

kids were sick. old dudes not so sick.
There's two kinds of sick, so sounds about right.
I was hoping for the sun
What did the moon do to deserve that?
It's just the Finnish mentality of being humble - we never aim for the Sun, as it's out of reach. Like a Sharks win against Vegas. But we'll be shooting things and players to the Sun come playoff time (if it ever comes), I'm sure of it.

Jokes aside, that's just a direct translation of a Finnish saying-ish. Especially useful in situations like this!
Warso seems fairly agitated in the post game
Probably at himself, no? Does Goodrow ring a bell, Woofsofsky? More like Badline, amirite?

I get that, but I still think that a decent goalie bails out his team at least once. Take Wennberg, he had a bad game. But the expectation can't be that every mistake ends up in the back of the net because the goalie can't ever make a big save.

It feels like fans underestimate how much a goalie like Blackwood kept games like this close (if not outright winning them).

Most goalies would've saved that Eichel one. I think they get a good save on that one and they get a chance to settle down a bit.

I think that most goals works have stopped that Eichel one (which I clock as a misread from Georgiev), and the McNabb one is probably stopped 70% of the time as well.

Was at the game. Kind of a dead crowd for a sold out game. Even had one obnoxious fan who fully obstructed my view/+ others 4 times as he stood up during every shot/scoring chance (once for 10 seconds). Missed Smith’s goal staring at his back and told him to sit effing down after the 4th time. Mind you this guy stood up while all of us were sitting. I usually sit lower tier so I hate how obstructed upper tier can be at times.

Anyways, excited to see Mukh get his 1st goal, Smith get 2 points and Celebrini kept his point streak up. But man, it was so demoralizing to let in 2 shorties within like 1 minute. I just couldn’t help but start laughing at how horror bad we are right now. Really need Walman and Eklund back soon. I’ll be there for Calgary tomorrow and Philly on Tuesday. Hope we don’t end the year losing 9 in a row. We need a top 4 pick but we also need to pick us wins every now and then.
