My concern for having a total loser mindset is the impact it can have on the younger players. Hard to compete when you have a team no better than last season.
I think they'll get over it pretty quickly once there is a solid roster in place. And when I say solid roster I mean a roster that doesn't have Chris Wideman, Edmundson, Drouin, Hoffman, Armia, Dadonov, Dvorak, Gallagher, Anderson, et Co. So I hope Habs have a few therapy sessions lined up to keep the Suzukis and Caufields of the world sane until the better roster in in place.

As of last night. It's a tough road ahead. Lost of ground to make up.

I hadn't looked at the standings lately, damn the Hawks are good at it. That must be some heavy caliber Toews is driving. Won't be easy to catch down indeed.

Bottom 3 is out of reach. We'd have to win 1 out of 4 games with no loser points for the remainder of the calendar to even have a shot. We have to aim at 29th; this is as low as we'll manage to get.
Agreed. I think the best we can do with the Habs odds is 29th. But....we could also get to 28th with the Panthers.

4th + 5th best odds = 18%. Nearly the same as the last place team.

That is the dream scenario. Win with one of our picks and select Bedard + Michkov.

I'm not sure. Heading into the season, I said bottom 5-10 or 8-12. December was not so good for us again but we started better this season vs last season.

From this point to end of season, what do you think our winning % is? .400 or worse might get us in the mix of the top 3 but if we stay in the .400 - .500 range, we likely finish close to where we are now.

Almost half way point for us. 5 more games? I believe we went .432% with MSL as our coach last year. Seems more of the same this season to me.

How many more injures do we get and are they players who provide impact? Monahan going down clearly changed this for us

A lot of unanswered questions.

I believe our core players are very well aware of what is going on. Even if coaches and players don't tank, they surely know that no help is coming for this year. Our useless vets know they have one foot out of the door. It's just a weird transitional year for the players. I wouldn't be concerned about that until next year where we are hopefully more competitive and boasting 2 top 10 picks either on the team or in the pipeline.

Last place team gets a little advantage because they get the added % with teams who are bottom 13-16 range. If they win the lottery, they can only move 10 spots and the last place team stays #1OA as default. So the 18% they have is actually higher.

However, we do have two darts vs 1. And the Panthers are who we thought they were. So yeah, two picks in the 5-10 range. I'll take it for sure!

If the Habs don't win the lottery, I hope it's not a team after us and in between our pick and the Panthers. Man how close would we have come for Bedard then eh?

I think there is a chance we are worse next year. I actually hope so but not at the cost to youth's development and confidence.

* I don't see our PP improving.

* If Monahan is gone, I don't think Dach turns the needle next year as a full time center. Are we trading for Dubois or sticking with Suzuki, Dach, Dvorak, Evans?

* Goalies are meh. Some good games and some bad.

* Guys on D are performing well but do they carry that forward in the 2nd season?

* Some will say yeah but Drouin and Dadonov are gone so we will be better. OK? Better with Heineman and Farrell learning on the job in their 1st season?

Playing a bit of devil's advocate here.

I don't see our PP being worse than it is, I refuse to believe it. There isn't a world in which we are running Drouin and Dach at the point again.

Yeah, center line is definitely a concern, but it's hard to say if it will be one next season. Maybe Beck and/or Carlsson make the team next year and provide instant value. Maybe we re-sign Monahan for a couple of years. Maybe we trade for Dubois. May be Dach figures it out at center.

Don't think goalies are bad or good enough to drastically swing the Habs over or under their projection. May be Allen reggresses a little and Monty improves a bit.

We should see some internal improvements from our young D on both sides off the ice. And added competition from Mailloux.

I mean, we are still waiting on Drouin and Armia to score a single goal. I don't think having younger hungrier players will be a downgrade in any shape or form. Slaf should be better also.

We can only guess but I personally see a roller-coaster ride with lots of ups and downs but a general trajectory uphill over a 5 year span.

Well we are 32 out of 32nd worst on the power play so yea, I agree that we can’t possibly be worse.

Kane is the main tank driver there, even if Toews has also contributed his fair share.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks actually improving once Kane (and Toews) are traded, if they do get traded.

When has this ever actually happened where the team built a respectable roster around the young players?

There's no evidence that loser mentality exists, whereas the evidence for rebuilds working is pretty significant.

Feel like tonight Habs win. Marty said his patience has an expiration date and it has expired. Armia dans les gradins. The Great Sam Montanbo is in net. If this doesn't have a win written all over it, I don't know what is.

4-1 Habs.

I am glad that big puck swallowing marshmallow is back though.
