After I saw what the refs did when McQuaid and Carrier engaged in a fight .... i shut the game down and watched a movie. Disgusting. 2 games in a row the refs intervene amateurish and disgraceful. It keeps getting worse. I'm glad the bruins won, but I can't keep watching if this B.S (refs) keeps going on.

They ended up putting McQuaid in a vulnerable position (hell! he could have gotten concussed!!) ... disgusting. Not because it's McQuaid or any bruins player for that matter, but what happened last night was a disgrace to the game of hockey.
You missed a great game

I hate the Carrier hit, it was a head shot. But Carrier at least manned up and was willing to go. I hate the linesmen and the league more than I hate Carrier. It's their "stop any fight before it gets going, oh woe is me!" policy that got Quaider hurt, and someday it's going to be more than a few stitches because wrestling with a linesman instead of dukeing it out is going to cause a major injury. Bank on it.

The only good I saw of this is the ref was giving it to the linesmen in the ref's crease. He still gave out a stupid 2-5-10 to the guy who "instigated" nothing except getting his arms held back while the other guy punched him in the face, but at least the ref recognized the linesmen F'd up.

The way that Carrier was free to pound McQuaid I wanted Quaider to drop the lineman. Hang the suspension, a situation like that shouldn't happen

Yes Carrier was willing to go with Quaider but he was saved from a sure ass kicking by the linesmen. And IMO Carrier should have stopped throwing punches once he saw that McQuaid's arms were being restrained & he couldn't defend himself. That was bush league on Carrier's part.

Someone posted the McQuaid-Carrier fight on the main board and to my surprise, a lot of the people didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Are we overreacting here?

I know that I am biased, but I would like to think Id be just as outraged if I saw this happening to another team. The responses also make me question the future of this league, and that a lot of fans don't really care if fighting is being phased out of the game.

Honestly, its a bit depressing.

A couple of hours after the game, I noticed there was still no thread on the main board. I thought of posting one, but knew how it would go.

But let's be honest - if the Bruins were on the giving end of that hit, or if a Bruins player benefited from the refs immobilizing a fighting opponent, the main board would break the internet better than Kim Kardashian ever could.

If I'm doing my best to be unbiased, I can agree with Andy Brickley's comparison of the Carrier hit to Krug's hit on Shaw. I don't like the hit, but Backes' head was somewhat down. I can even give the Habs props for sending a guy Krug's size after him. And if I'm being really unbiased, I won't even find too much fault with Carrier. He was willing to answer for his actions, and knowing he'd likely lose against McQuaid, he was throwing punches on adrenaline.

But that's where it ends.

If the refs did that to any other team, there isn't a single fan base on this board that wouldn't be livid.

I thought the hit was unfortunate but not an intentional shot to the head. If a player isn't standing straight up,it's always a possibility. But that **** show put on by the linesmen was inexcusable. If the directive is to eliminate all fighting then to hell with the NHL game.

Carrier only played 1:23 the entire game last night. I got a feeling Bylsma did not like him punching through the linesmen and he got sent down as punishment

I agree...not the worst hit ever, but one where MCQuaid was certainly justified in challenging Carrier.

In the end......if they just let things play out like they have for 95% of the time the NHL was in existence, it would be over.

Questionable hit thrown......guy who threw the hit gets challenged to a fight......fight happens....the end.

Exactly. I don't know how many legitimate players are on that CTE list.

Lol, a Habs fan on the main board was just challenged to find a video of Marchand turtling. I believe last time this challenge was laid down the guy found an authentic video of a unicorn wearing a Bigfoot pelt sweater riding on a Loch Ness Monster, but no video of Marchy turtling.

The difference, which makes it not really comparable, is that Krug came straight for Shaw, hitting him in the chest and head. Sure, both were reaching forward, but that hit was more like Pasta's hit that got him suspended. This was way worse since it came from the blindside and Backes had got rid of the puck for quite a considerable amount of time. It was also clear long before he even got rid of it that he wasn't going to be eligible to get hit. So saying this hit on Backes is similar to Krug's on Shaw is like saying Rome's hit on Horton is (except that wasn't even blindside either).

Pretty much why us Bruins fans never start a thread on the main boards. It turns in to a pissing match, other teams fans troll/flame, and the thread gets shut down.

Bruins fans are basically not allowed to post on there.

As I said before, the main board is a mixture of Habs fans and 12 year olds. Still funny to see. The one guy who replied posted a DOPS video of Marchand low bridging someone. Should have just played dumb.

They didn't really show the Backes hit too many times but from what I saw it looked like a head shot. Would like to see again...but is there a suspension coming? Guessing no since we have not heard anything.

I re-watched the Quaider/Carrier fight and couldn't help but return here and re-express my outrage.

What the **** were they doing? Ludicrous.
