My guess is that over the layoff, there are two types of players:

1) Those who enjoy the break, but at least do things on their own time to keep their bodies in shape and their minds sharp.

2) Those who completely tune out hockey, indulge in food and beverage, and think when play resumes, they can just hit a switch.

We saw both tonight.

It's a bit odd, as it was only three days. With Christmas on Wednesday, Monday vs. the Caps seems like an eternity ago; but it wasn't.

So I'll give them a mulligan on tonight, as long as Saturday they are back to where they were.

Yeah. Post-Christmas hangover, coming back for a largely meaningless one-game road trip. Eh. Don't need to lose sleep over or read too much into this one. Travel home and do better tonight.

Bruins woke up early and had to fly out for a game hours later, right? Then have to fly back out again getting in late.

Columbus slept in their own bed and looked like a rested team.

If I was a betting man, I would say odds are better Bruins may look gassed tonight also as opposed to Columbus.

''One thing that really stood out was I don't think I've ever seen anybody look as ineffective as Lindholm looked on the PK after he gave Carlo his stick. The way he played that he'd have been better off sprinting to the bench and back and taking that chance cause what he was doing there was amazingly horrible.''
Yeah, that was something else.

I'd take Wahlstrom over Frederic.
idk, I saw that online fight clip but unless Wahlstrom brings some of that soon I don't see him contributing anything. With Freddy I keep hoping that one day he'll get angry and thump somebody, although admittedly he isn't doing it and that makes him pretty useless.

In general we built a big team, but none of these guys play angry or play big. Maybe Kastelic and Zadorov and that's about it. No advantage to having big if they don't use it.

I will be shocked if we are actually better in the second game. They have the young legs and speed.

What's so hard to understand? They had a holiday hangover and were playing an opponent that is hard to get up for. If ever we were going to lay an egg, this game was it.
Good point. I can't imagine any player or even team who gets up to play Columbus. They're kind of a "nothing" franchise without an identity. I don't want to bash them, I don't have anything against them, but I think they're the most plain vanilla franchise there is. Quarter century of existing but they have no memorable history.

Beat the Jackets tonight and then get ready for Washington on Tuesday because I want to see how they match up, the Caps will be looking for revenge and the B's had better be ready. Korpi made some excellent saves but also gave a lot of juicy rebounds up in this one. It was a terrible game Two thumpings by Columbus this season is two too many.

Why didn't Columbus have a holiday hangover? You say this like an excuse, when I'd say it's more like an indictment. Why didn't the new coach get his point across? Why didn't the captain get them up? Why were a bunch of Columbus' young players who don't have experience able to hand the holidays, but the veteran Bruins weren't?

Yeah that might well be the case. But I would expect at least an attempt at a better performance and an improved effort both on account of being on home ice and having been trounced by this same opponent twice in a row now. The incentive is definitely there. How the legs respond we'll see, but there's got to at least be some more intent tonight.

They beat the Bruins 5-1 in Boston earlier this season, and that loss got their coach fired. It shouldn't take a franchise having a memorable history to get a team to want to get revenge here.

The Bruins aren't good enough to simply throw games away because they don't care enough.

A lot of early sleep nights for me this season. I mean, I need the sleep but I am getting more of these lately than in many of the years previous combined. The team can be Jekyll and Hyde and I don't think its necessarily intentional but random to them. That 4 man change was terrible and put the team on its heels. They never recovered.

The Jeckyl and Hyde thing sometimes happens in the same game, period to period.

I have never understood this. Everyone knows what time the game starts. Everyone in the room is getting ready pre-game. If you weren’t ready in the room, how are then you not getting ready mentally as you walk down the tunnel? Time to go to work. Holy s.
Funny how many times a season we hear Bruin players and coach make this statement! Goes to my earlier statement that this team learns NOTHING from their mistakes!

I just want a veteran traded.
There is only one player on this team that I would be upset if traded and that's our Captain!

This team is just such a pile of garbage when they fall behind early. The lack of high end scoring talent really shows and they fall apart. Lack of speed, lack of skill, complete collapse any time the opposition scores early and plays with speed.

Wahlstrom is useless. Another desperation shot in the dark from Sweeney that amounts to nothing. No better than Johnson was. Maybe worse. I can see why the Islanders waived him, he brings nothing.

One thing that really stood out was I don't think I've ever seen anybody look as ineffective as Lindholm looked on the PK after he gave Carlo his stick. The way he played that he'd have been better off sprinting to the bench and back and taking that chance cause what he was doing there was amazingly horrible.

The third line? Brazeau is a complementary player who has a limited skill set (reach and net front possession) but he's only effective playing with higher skilled players. On that current third line he's useless and Freddy needs to be traded if we even can,. The line without Coyle is now completely useless.

idk, some people are playoff confident, but if Ottawa keeps surging and Columbus plays well we could still fall right out of this thing.

Columbus has more skill and speed and is just better than the Bruins. Simple as that. They are a young team on the rise and the Bruins are a team on the decline, perhaps only hanging in there and over achieving some nights due to veteran savvy and a strong team culture. The lack of talent is glaring.
You are 100 percent correct. Whalstrom brings nothing and is useless and both Ottawa and Columbus will overtake us

Agreed, that and getting jobbed in the penalty that put them down 1-0. Falling behind again after the line change goal, they rolled up like a party whistle. If they are going to keep dumping and chasing, they have to win the race to the puck. If they are going to rim it in on an entry (and hope it gets past the goalie), they need to send two guys down the opposite side to get it - and win the puck battle, like the ones we are still losing on the boards when there are two of us and one opponent on a pp. I think Poitras has the skill to get an entry, but I worry about him getting lit up into the third row five seconds later.

Fate keeps treating me well on these games

Other blow outs were late games I couldn’t stay up to watch

This one I threw a game on while waiting, got too into it, forgot the bruins were playing, saw they were down 5-1, kept playing my own game.

Will Sacco be fired today then?
