A lot of it is the citizenry. Vancouver is so affluent and high end that they don't want to pay for transit that the riff-raff will use but not them.

They've also killed a lot of other cultural stuff around the city. They whinged about the Vancouver Grand Prix IndyCar race and it was gone. They whinged about the Celebration of Lights international fireworks festival and I think it's neutered. They've bitched and moaned about Playland and the PNE every summer and it's always threatened that one of the largest fairs/exhibitions in Canada (with a ton of history) could be significantly pared down or go extinct.

Vancouver has had a rep as a "no fun city" for a long time and a lot of it is down to rich jerks with downtown condos complaining that people enjoying themselves is too noisy for them to sit in their ivory towers and clutch their brandy goblets.
When I left in 2007 I hated the city. I did find there was nothing to do. All my favorite bars were shutting down and they were just starting on the mass condo construction. I do know the fireworks fest was always a shitshow. I lived down in that area (near Denman) and it was always gangbangers from Delta coming down to start shit.

all that is from the thrun turnover...

The sharks really need some better defensemen. Walman is out and it shows. still we need at least one or two more high quality guys back there.

I like the forwards...
Nyr are having a fire sale grab Fox!

In Canada we call it Hongcouver

50% of Vancouver is owned by China

Darranged Oreo Dolphins? Is that how Vancouver got their name? I've never really understaood the significance of the Orca, but then I don't know the backstory of the Canucks.

I hope this is a fun game tonight. Maybe a win to start the Christmas holiday season.

SNOG

Sharks 4 (Celebrini, Eklund, Granlund, Toffoli)
Canucks 5 (Boeser, Debrusk, Garland, Joshua, Hoglander)

There are tons of Orcas in the ocean off the BC coast so it's sort of an unofficial symbol of the region. Also during the mid/late 90s when the redesign happened and they went from the skate logo to the orca it was probably partially because they and the Grizzlies were owned by a company called Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment. A lot of people hated the orca logo because it seemed like such a transparent vanity move by the ownership group to equate the logo with themselves rather than the skate or the older stick-and-rink.

And the name "Canuck" is a slang term for Canadian people.

I think they wanted to call themselves the Vancouver Canadians, but went with Canucks instead.

Vancouver Canadians was already the name of the local minor league baseball team (used to be a AAA team that was the affiliate of Oakland for a long time. Then they moved the team to Sacramento and we got a new team to inherit the name was a Short-Season A (now High-A) affiliate of the Blue Jays)

They should go back to the Millionaires since you gotta be that to live there.

Amazon needs to sort out their lighting for the intermission panel. Andi Petrillo looks like a zombie, and the other girl (whose name I missed) looks like she's glowing bronze.

I mean, he's not that good. But he is and always has been a good PKer and he's been much better in general since getting help from Liljegren to handle carrying the puck.
Hes a so so PKer. Not bad, but not great. Ive always been a big ferraro fan, but his -15 is not a fluke., and hes never out there for ENGs against either, which is a common source of minuses.

Hes just not that good. I would be very OK if they chose to move on from him and found a home for him elsewhere.

The team has a whole 2 ENG against this season.

I went to the Olympics in Vancouver and saw some Olympic hockey. Gastown was nice, but my understanding was that they moved all the homeless out. Another Capitalist city.......
Well Gastown is super close to BC place and Rogers Arena, they just subtly shuffled down down Hastings.

Still, outplayed another contending team (albeit a bit struggling) in their own barn. The sharks are right there toe to toe with the best in the west.

So encouraging for the near future, every period they play even or better with the class of the league.

p.s.: Wennberg has been a real pleasant surprise... His skating and puck control and possession is impressive...

Yes, its amazing how few theyve given up...
