Kasper has shown some poor net front defense going -2 this game and -1 in Toronto. Meanwhile Copp goes +2 this game and even the previous one, while digging out a puck for an assist.

So you want to promote Kasper who's had some defensive brainfarts while demoting Copp who's basically playing the best he has since he put on a red jersey? I didn't see it, but apparently he threw a check for the first time in 20 games (or maybe they gave him one for pushing Roy off the puck, lol).

Kasper has a better chance of getting sent down to GR along with Motte, especially now that everyone is playing with more intensity. I'd be OK with Raz-Fish-Elmer 4th line latter in the season. I think Elmer needs a few more games kicking AHL ass, while Todd sorts out the players in Detroit.

I don't think I need to tell anyone here that I'm not a Copp fan, but the way he's playing, he deserves a few more games at 2C. 2C Copp, lol, I just said that. Let's see if Todd can make it work.

We'll see ... I think you're underestimating the work he's doing as a legit C and the value he provides the lineup, even though obviously the points aren't there. If Elmer and/or Mazur come up I would bet it wouldn't be Kasper going down.

If it's Mazur that gets called up, then Mazur-Kasper-Burger makes sense, but if it's Elmer, Todd will probably run Raz-Fish-Elmer. That's a heavy line.

Why can't it work? If Todd is able to focus that line around their strengths and make it work, why not? Unless there's suddenly a better 2c available

I'd personally rather see kasper surrounded by skilled linemates than shoved on a 4th line with scrubs and have us trying instead to get our top 10 draft pick gaining confidence

He's been consistent in his assessment that Kasper needed more time in GR. Can't fault him for his opinion. I think between his current usage, and defensive play of late, he should go down as well.

I guess we will see what Todd does. Ultimately he's a smart coach, lets see what he thinks. You don't amass the kind of career winning percentage he has as coach and be outsmarted by a hockey forum armchair coach.

A team can make the playoffs without a legit 2C, the Wings fell one point short last season. They usually don't make it past the first round, and rarely past the second.

I think people, including myself, are excited to see the team win due to the circumstances of the past few days and because they actually played with some drive. I don’t think anyone is expecting the playoffs at this point, just being tougher to play against. It’s ok to be excited about this win, because it’s the result of play we haven’t seen a lot this year.

I would have gathered assets to make moves later in the season and regroup in the off season while seeing kids play

Devils got #2 pick and back to the playoffs the following year and now a top team. The its good to be 9th so we dont have a losers mentality is bs

I didn't say copp is an ideal 2c or that McLellan isn't dealing with what's available to him. I said he knows better than you do what will work in his system. There's a good chance he's going to try out a few different options before making a decision. I just don't think Kasper is a 2c. I honestly see him as a Darren helm type player. A career 3C that's known as one of the best 3c in the league but just doesn't have the offensive upside. Putting Kasper between kane and cat isn't suddenly going to unleash some power up.

No but computer might. And putting copp as 2c while computer works on his game before giving him a shot at 2c again is a lot more likely to yield good results than throwing Kasper into the fire and watching it fail miserably. A lot of your opinions are based on years of bad coaching clouding your judgement.

Kasper has better passing vision and offensive IQ, but he doesn't know how to play with guys that like to slow down the play like Kane or Tank. His inability to drive the net and set up for a shot is painfully reminiscent of Helm, who I had hoped would develop into more much like people are hoping with Kasper. Probably why I'm not as enthusiastic as others on Kasper.

I think we’ll see Kasper there at some point this season. I trust McLellan to do what he sees is right for the young player’s development. Look at how quickly he integrated young players into an on-the-fly rebuild in LA. What’s happening in LA this season is a large part of his work.

I agree with you about Copp and Compher. They are brutal to watch at points, but they’ll be eventually relegated and gone by the time our picks start coming up. It’s not fun to watch them, but if the coach thinks Kasper needs to work on something from the bottom line and work his way up, then I’ll trust his judgement.

I'm an austrian fellow and I'd much rather see Kasper playing 1C down in AHL than center the 4th line in the NHL.

I also think that even the points are not there, Kasper has shown that he is more than capable playing at NHL level. If u don't give him a chance playing with better wingers for the Wings, send him down to AHL.

I've followed Kaspers entire carreer and it's kinda strange to see what player he's become. He started out as pure playmaker when he was 13-14, they started to use him as "crash-the-net" hard nosed powerforward as soon as he's arrived professional men hockey.

Those natural playmaking skills are still there, but they won't flourish at NHL level on a 4th line. He's got a long taste of NHL now, let him become a PPG-Player in the AHL. He will become a serviceable top9 forward for the Wings for years to come. Except they do something stupid and trade him away.
