What a pleasant surprise. Didn’t realize it was an early game. I was soaking in the tub and thought I’d get the first period score and it’s all over. WY to go guys. Number four team in the league. Congrats Todd, first Wing win

Need to let Kasper center Kane and DeBrincat. He's too good to be centering nobody's still. He will be a point-machine in between actual wingers.

Need to get Johansson in permanently for Holl too. He is too pathetic.

Splitting up Seider and Edvinsson was 100% the right call; gave us actually decent defense for 2/3rds of the game. Veleno on the top line looked like the right call too. Tarasenko's still garbage...but actually saw him lay down and block a shot at the end there...a positive sign

Veleno--Larkin--Raymond
DeBrincat--Kasper--Kane
Copp/Berggren/Ras--Compher--Tarasenko

...Tank's always been best on his off-wing. See how Copp/Bergg/Ras look opposite him next game.

Chiarot--Seider
Edvinsson--Petry
Johansson--Gustafsson/Holl

Sounds like McClellan wants Mo to be a generational player, not "just" a good number one defenseman. Somehow I think he will thrive given both freedom and high expectations.
In his first season, I remember him learning and getting visibly better literally from one game to the next. He's plenty hard on himself. Unchain that beast and help him; don't coach him down to the common denominator.
(Rum and cokes are kicking in. I am waxing a little lyrical here 😆)

Tarasenko is the team's most useless player. And, that's quite a distinction on this squad.

Most guys were somewhat effective today, Tarasenko was not. But, he did block his first shot ever in the NHL.
Earlier in the season I was hoping it was just a cup hangover from lots of hard miles. Given the way this team was playing, I'll give it a couple more games with the new coach, but it's pretty disappointing.

You can't have Kasper there because both Kane and DeBrincat are bad defensively.

Seider is the only player on the team who plays the game the right way.

I believe Oates was the head coach of NJ after.

Interim "co-head" coach after DeBoer was fired, and he was not retained after the season was over. Lou was basically in charge anyways.

There's a chance Fester might find a similar interim job because he now has head coaching experience, but I doubt a playoff team will ever hire him considering his inability to motivate players. His micromanaging was demotivational at best.

Tarasenko should go back to St. Louis. He's pretty much sucked everywhere else in this latter half of his career.

He basically said the same thing about Ed last post game presser. I love that he acknowledged how good both of them are but also says they still need to learn a lot more and will get a lot better. I love how he's motivating and challenging our already best players to be even better. I have not felt this optimistic about the wings in a long time. Coaching is so refreshing.

agree. This team isn't going to suddenly get good, but if the young core players really excel, that will make me feel a ton better about the future. Lalonde had sucked the life out of everyone.

Calder Cup maybe. I doubt he gets another head coaching job.

I'm getting the feeling that he micromanaged players too much and stifled all creativity and offensive output. Those kind of coaches don't get a second chance. Adam Oates almost ruined Holtby by micromanaging how to play goalie. Oates never got a second chance.
It’s been pretty apparent this was the case listening to McLellan talk. Seems Lalonde micromanaged every aspect of the game. There’s a reason these guys got to the NHL, and McLellan seems to understand that you need to let the players rely on their instincts while letting the structure get them into the position to succeed.

Based on what I saw in the 3rd there's still some running around in their own end for sure. It's gonna take a bit to clean that up.

But the puck support, zone exits and offensive zone possession all looked better.

One of their better if not their best game of the season in terms of puck management. Very few high-risk passes, blind clears around the boards, desperation icings because there was no one available and helping,. They had little trouble moving the puck up-ice until the Caps cranked things up at times in the third period.

Splitting up Mo/Ed was overdue. It's been great seeing them play together 20 minutes a game, remindng us what quality D looks like, but the other 40 minutes with negligible offensive help from two D pairs dragged the whole team down.

Veleno was quite good on the top line and worth seeing how it goes for an extended stretch. He's the piano carrier on that line and that simple but necessary job suits him.

To be fair i think any of seider edvinsson Raymond or ASP could one day make the case for the next captain.
I could be wrong but I been saying for a year seider will be the next captain and it wouldnt totally shock me and i know fans will be pissed but if Larkin was stripped of the C before his contract ends and Seider is named C

Its happened before with tavares and I think sj or dallas? Cant remember

Anyways we'll see what happens, wont be for a while and I'm in no hurry to age lol

Kasper has shown some poor net front defense going -2 this game and -1 in Toronto. Meanwhile Copp goes +2 this game and even the previous one, while digging out a puck for an assist.

So you want to promote Kasper who's had some defensive brainfarts while demoting Copp who's basically playing the best he has since he put on a red jersey? I didn't see it, but apparently he threw a check for the first time in 20 games (or maybe they gave him one for pushing Roy off the puck, lol).

Kasper has a better chance of getting sent down to GR along with Motte, especially now that everyone is playing with more intensity. I'd be OK with Raz-Fish-Elmer 4th line latter in the season. I think Elmer needs a few more games kicking AHL ass, while Todd sorts out the players in Detroit.

I don't think I need to tell anyone here that I'm not a Copp fan, but the way he's playing, he deserves a few more games at 2C. 2C Copp, lol, I just said that. Let's see if Todd can make it work.

You really seem to want Kasper to get demoted back down to GR
