Which is why trading Blackwood was the right move. We need to play well but still lose games. Can't have our goalies either stealing games or doing their part in games we should win.
It's also the real reason that Askarov is staying down unless injuries require him to make a spot NHL start.

SNOG announcement

The goalscorers tiebreaker played strongly tonight as our winner took it by 4 goalscorers to 1.

I just hope the game isn't a blow out. Jets have come back to earth lately so maybe it will be a good game, and then you might have some motivation after the Utah game.

SNOG

Jets 4 (Scheifele, Connor, Morrissey, Namestnikov)
Sharks 3 (Celebrini, Eklund, Toffoli)

Congrats @SJSharksfan39 on your first SNOG of the season!

Reminds me of a few of those seasons in the late teens when they were always giving it away late. Things could have been worse, I guess…
Yeah, but those teams were better teams that gave away the game by making dumb mistakes rather than this team fumbling a game they were just barely hanging onto. Somehow I mind this less. Or I've reached Sharks-fan Nirvana and have become numb to self-induced failure

Focusing on what matters, which is how did the kids do:
  • Celebrini. Enough said.
  • Smith - thought he looked pretty good. Managing to show up stronger on the boards and in the DZ without compromising his offensive creativity. Maybe a bit too trigger happy into traffic but still looks confident. Keep it going kid.
  • Eklund, played solidly. Would like to see a few more games of 72-21-2 to give them time to gel.
  • Mukh, meh. He does move well and he has reach. He had some confident breakout plays. But also got out-muscled a bunch and looked like he was holding on by his fingertips on the 2min shift with Rutta. He's just 22, but you'd love to see a flash of excitement on D or O in the next few games. He's probably bringing more than Thrun already, at least?
  • And the "veteran youth" - both Kovalenko and Zetterlund looked solid. Great game all around.

I hope the video coaches get a bunch of time to go over this one. Aside from Georgiev doing Georgiev things, this was a real close game against one of the best teams in the league, and the Jets are great at all the things the Sharks need to work on
Can't even pin the loss on him. The tying goal was a seeing eye shot and everyone played that the best they can. 4th goal was a tip (maybe double tip). Team needs killer instinct. They were up 3-2 and let off the gas. What the f***.

Just got home. Great game. They outplayed the jets most of the game.

This is team is so amazingly on the cusp that it’s perfect. If Askarov steps in and plays well, and they add one or two more good forwards and one or two more good D, they are easily a PO team. Beat Washington in Washington. Up 3-2 in the third vs Carolina. Up 3-2 in the third vs the jets (and Utah too). Aside from Tampa and Florida games, they are toe to toe with the best teams in the league. That means they are just a few top players from winning all those games.

Kovalenko looks like he fits right in. Great add by Grier! Reminds me of zetterlund except pass first. Still, the team is clearly coming into form!

Georgiev reminds me of Jones. In the sense that on all the particular goals he allows you can look carefully and find a way to excuse him, but overall a decent goaltender would just have made more of those tough saves.
I think despite the score, he actually played pretty well in this game. The only one I take issue with is the last one, where the tip was fairly inconsequential in my view.

I cannot say the same about the defense.
