Got a chance to watch new arrival RW Jordan Charron twice now, as he joins the Greyhounds mid-season.
Charron is an interesting new category of player, who can now play in the CHL, as he awaits his first NCAA season. He’s been playing with Ayr Centennials (GOJHL) this season, and is scheduled to attend St Lawrence University for the 26-27 season.
With the new rules, we’re now going to see more Jordan Charron’s after this CHL/NCAA agreement.
In Charron’s first 11 OHL games, he has a 3G 2A 5 Pt stat line, and he’s played with lots of pace for adjusting to a new league. His 3 goals have now come in a 3 game span.
All you need to know initially is, he can skate, has an NHL shot, and isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty at 17. He’ll turn 18 in June and is already physically maturing at 6’1” 190 lbs. Some will list him much lighter, but those are old measurements.
Definitely a player to keep an eye on, as he feels more and more confident with each game now.
Because of his shot and skatings ability, plus he’ll be a very young 18 at the draft, he was probably going to end up a 6th or 7th round pick. I’ve been told he is absolutely on the radar of more than a few teams, even prior to his OHL debut.
As the season progresses here, so will his draft status. I’m gonna guess he probably never makes it to St Lawrence for the 26-27 season. It’ll be interesting to see the teams who will or won’t disregard that he’s only going to have 75% of one OHL season under his belt, but as they say, if you can play, they will find you. I’m gonna guess he won’t be a victim of his circumstance like an Amadeus Lombardi was.
From what I’ve seen, pure talent alone, he’s a Top 125 pick for sure. Can he get into the top 75 or even 50? Let’s see what he does with this opportunity.
As teams study his grasp to process the game quickly, and he passes those evaluations, good bet he will shoot up draft boards. Time will tell on that subject.
Definitely has a chance to be a power forward at the pro level.
This is one subject not many have talked about regarding the new NCAA rules. Now, we’ll get a better grasp for these kids, as more players get their chance to play in the CHL before going to college.
The 9-10 teams who do their own in-house scouting/evaluations without any outside influence, are gonna likely have him much higher on their draft boards, than Scouting Service dependent teams. Scouting services hate players without lots of high competition film.
From what we’ve seen so far, it’s hard not to see the talent. We’ll see what he does with this new opportunity. Great player to track this season.
