With all the money this organization brings in you think we would have the best amateur scouts with proven records rather then Gordie Clark and his flunkies to JD and his family and flunkies to now Drury and his flunkies.
It's because hockey development is mostly random.

That's what has always pissed me off. We have the ability to have the best, but we don't bother. It's a business to Dolan, having better prospects gets you more $$, so invest in what let's you get them

The Rangers have the resources to employ the "just get a bunch of good players" approach to building a roster. It's amazingly difficult to mess up and they do it with astonishing efficiency.

They could have had a bunch more picks if they kept selling, plus Eichel or Tkachuk in their prime if they ponied up and traded their mediocre bullshit. Instead they hitched the wagon to a team that was never going to be good enough.

The Knicks traded their mediocre bullshit and B+ fan favorites to get legit elite players. The Rangers elected to sniff their own farts.

They're still doing it with Shesterkin when they had a chance to get value for him.

Still can't believe people hated on the KAT trade, people were legit saying don't miss with the chemistry

Granted it would have helped a lot if we didn't whiff on 2nd, 7th, 9th, and arguably 1st (and the Kravtsov draft was just one of the most ass drafts in history, nothing could have been done).

But yeah, selling Zibanejad and Kreider and getting a couple of more high picks would have helped a lot. Imagine getting Hughes in 2021 and Cooley in 2022.

We would be coming out of it now, which a bunch of cap and a chance to add Rantanen to a young group.
Actually we could have come out of the Kravtsov draft with Bouchard or Dobson, both of whom were in discussion for that pick.

I wouldn't have liked it at the time cause I wanted a forward, but, it would have been the right move. In retrospect it seemed like everyone kinda knew at the time that Bouchard or Dobson would have been the right selections if not for the fact that we were desperate for a dynamic forward.

Always, always, always take the BPA.

The Rangers are reaping what they sowed. The Devils drafted players like Hughes and Hischier and force fed them PP time and EV strength ice time right from the jump. The Rangers went with the "YA GOTTA PROVE IT KID" approach with Laf and Kakko and other forwards and look where it's gotten them. They gave a nice cushy environment to players like Kreider and Zibanejad just to have things go sideways. Absolute disaster.

Make no mistake, as much as we are the literal trash of the league, this Devils team is genuinely good and has been trending in the right direction for several years. They built a team the right way. And they are 100% legit contenders with just a “good” goalie.

Like The Mouth says (and I NEVER agree with him), I really feel sorry for Quick -- They are leaving players open for easy tap-ins//shots and Quick doesn't even have time to blink.
