Except IQ tests are usually timed, because making high pressure decisions in a fast manner is a form of intelligence. So decision making and executive functioning are parts of IQ for sure.
Hockey IQ is all about the capacity to slow down the play mentally, take the best decision with or w/o the puck, have a step on the other players, read the play and understand the position game.

So based on the above, IQ test need to be timed.

Bold part is absolutely right IMO.

1. Most tests are timed. So that's a bit of spurious argument. Besides, no one is talking about testing.
2. Making high-pressure decisions incorrectly too fast is a form of stupidity.
3. I didn't say IQ and decision-making are completely unrelated. I said they are different things. I still maintain that they are for the reasons I set out.

The other aspect of this is the question of whether it was the correct decision. In the hockey context, that's hard to determine. Hindsight is the judge. Should Pasta have taken the shot instead of passing to Zaccha? The only reason it's a question is because Zaccha didn't score. If Zaccha puts the puck in the net, we're lauding Pasta for his excellent passing and high hockey IQ.

Or maybe the pass was the hi-IQ play, but the goalie simply makes an amazing (or lucky) save.
