Danielson started slow but he’s looked better in the last 15 games in GR.
He was not best choice , but still not as bad as Zadina. Bring up Danielson next season for about 10-12 minutes a game and go from there, he will be better, he needs to get stronger, that is all

If the season is deemed by Mgmt/coaching to be lost, why the heck are they not seeing through to the opportunity to call up young players drafted by the organization? Especially since the team's arguably top performing D went down to injury?

The Johansson management here is so mind numbing. He has shown enough flashes where you'd give him a chance for an extended amount of games. Play him and Holl for 16-17 mins/night for a while and see what you get

This revolving rotation of players on the bottom pair is crazy, especially since the bozo Gustafsson gets spoon fed opportunities like QB'ing PP2 when he does absolutely nothing positive with any of his minutes to begin with
To me this is one of those scenarios where the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing (and vice versa).

I felt Lalonde has come across as inept - a Blashill clone from the start of his 3 year contract…Yzerman thru patience is letting things play out, but I wonder if he thinks if it’s legit tank or if he still believes this team can make the playoffs?

I firmly believe this season was more or less doomed from this past summer when Lalonde has been kept onboard - so be it and welcome the tank and let some of the kids from GR play to get a taste of the NHL - however that ain’t happening.

Yzerman , bring new coach, trade Tarasenko and Kane, stop Seider abusing, tank, make team younger and faster next season.

Who was available that would have been better?

Serious question - I really don’t follow the draft, or prospects that much.

Playing some of the kids more, or bringing up a few, isn't going to magically transform this into a winning team, BUT. If we are losing a lot of games anyway, maybe we should give the youth an opportunity to learn. I get the idea of having some veterans to stabilize things, but they really are not getting it done. Maybe the kids might learn their lessons better without deferring to tired old guys coasting their way to a padded retirement fund.
Maybe some of those vets might take it a little more seriously if they faced being replaced.
First half of last season, this team had major weaknesses, but they were developing an identity. This shit looks more like a sad old re-tool team than a young team trying to find the way.

That's what's frustrating right now. We are close enough, albeit with a very flawed on-ice product, to push for the playoffs with the East being a shit-show...

At the same time, we have a great opportunity to tank in a year where the top 4 2025 picks IMO will become top line players. All of which will grow with the team sooner rather than later as they're all very polished already

So pick one route and go. We are nearly halfway through the season and we have the luxury to either use our draft picks and lesser draft capital to land either;

a) top 6 winger with size and speed
b) top 4 two-way/defensive D

...Or sell off assets, waive some players, do a cheap buyout, and bring up your freaking draft picks waiting in the AHL for a cup of coffee at the very least

Honestly probably one for he worst games I’ve seen at the bell centre in years.

Poor Lyon got hung out to dry.

I think it’s ironic on the night that Lalonde should be getting fired, the team lost from a few too many iffy calls.

Team came out buzzing in the first period, after Veleno scored I thought it was going to be a good night. Too many defensive zone turnovers.

Justin Holl, Gustafson and Lagesson should NOT be in the NHL.

Why any of these 3 play over AlJo I think is pure madness. They all stuck out like a sore thumb. Gus being the worst. He brings absolutely nothing to the team. If we want a PP specialist, bring ASP over and let him figure it out, or give that role to Seider or Ed when he’s back.

Holl gap control is something I teach the kids in pewee of what not to do. Absolutely horrendous on what I think was the 3rd goal.

Team overall looked deflated. Going to be a long climb back into the playoffs after tonight. If yzerman is serious about competing, I don’t think there is any other option other than firing Lalonde. Let him stay in Montreal tonight. He can drink away his miseries at one of the many fine gentleman’s clubs we have here.

Yeah - I like your game plan…Just sell off as much as you can, acquire draft picks, let some kids from GR play in Detroit, and hope we’re top 3 for the lottery.

Dvorsky, but honestly I don't like his game that much. He will be a good player, but not a minute eating C

Benson is really good, but we have too many smallish wingers and he's a bit redundant with Raymond

I'm unsure if Daniil But was on Detroit's radar, but I do like him a lot

ASP, and we stole him

Danielson was the best pick at 9 (or ASP lol), extremely polished player yet he's very raw offensively. Lots to look forward with him down the middle in our top 6

Lalonde needs to be fired. What a weak pathetic effort. Just embarrassing you would think that the players would have some pride.

At this point they should trade Tarasenko and then re-sign Mickey Redmond. I know his knees are shot but Mick can ride the bench and then go out for PPs and camp the Ovie one-timer spot. Would at least make the games more interesting.

Damn...

It's crazy how bad this team has played with relatively few injuries. One can hope that this will force Lalonde to play Johansson or Wallinder. I doubt they will be great, but a trial by fire will atleast allow us to see what they're made of.

Different teams with different stregnths.

To be honest, we looked way better then we have all season. Suprisingly so.

We have a very, very young defense that teams with heavy checking makes us look like peewee. I didn't see that from you and in fact too much run and gun. With what we have, that is the wrong game against us. Teams like the Bruins check us into oblivion, you didn't.

It's just two games and that does not define a season. You got some good/great pieces that needs to gel.

Good luck...
