I'm simply stating all teams go through stretches of injuries and they happen to key players... just a matter of when. Good teams continue to play well through them, especially ones with superstars level talents still playing. People were screaming the sky was falling a few weeks ago and I was saying the Avs were going to be fine... they'd just have to play differently and the star players would have to play well. Which is exactly what has happened.

The Avs shouldn't be losing to Arizona even beat up, but weird games happen all the time. I have a longer view of things and tend to ignore games like this. The Avs played well as a team and controlled the play... George just had a stinker (after he's had a number of good games). Shit happens... no big deal losing this game. Now if they lost the next 5 and George was shit in all of them... some concern over his play might creep in, but this team is fine. They'll make the playoffs with ease. Just a matter of where they go from there... where they larger 5v5 issues are of significant concern.

I'd also say injures as a whole are overblown. It is pretty rare (meaning one or so a season) that a team of playoff quality misses due to injuries. Even more rare that a top team in the conference misses. They might hurt seeding, but seeding doesn't really matter IMO.
I don't want to come out the wrong way because I love you as a poster but sometimes your posts are frustrating. You always seem to pump up the other teams more and maybe it is because as benchman24 says you don't want to come out as a homer. I'll use the Avs' current injury issue as an example.

1. Avs having more important injuries than other teams you say:
"The Avs will be fine although they are winning due to goaltending and PP. They are winning but they should still be because all teams go through injuries during a season."

2. Any other team in the same situation you would say:
"That team is still winning with guys like players A, B, C, etc. out. They are finding ways to win. Koodos to them."

Like I said I don't want to seem like I don't respect you as a poster. It's just frustrating sometime.

You can always ignore me… I’m not offended.

I’m just not a homer. Being an Avs fan doesn’t mean I can’t like other teams or like hockey a ton. I watch probably over a 500 games a year (at various levels). I call things as I see them with no agenda behind it. Sometimes I’m wrong in that too.

I’m be given the Avs kudos for winning, I just also care more about the details of why they are winning compared to other teams. When I see struggles (like 5v5 play this year), I simply express that. Plus this is an Avs forum, I don’t think people care to hear my dissect 6 other teams.

Haha no need to ignore you. As I said I like and respect you as a poster. I enjoy most of your posts. The ones about the Avs just come out more critical. No big deal.

Called side gigs! I watch 3/4 of the Avs games live. About half of Tampa and whatever other team I want to follow that year. Figure one or two a night in the NHL. Then I get edited game films (I get them from leagues all over) that cut out all the breaks. Add in ~40 USHL and ~30 AHL live games. Handful of whl and OHL games too.

Meh... it is a message board, people complain about far worse than injuries here (see reffing complaints).
Now hold on just a minute there, friend.

I get your point that maybe we're putting too much weight on injuries relative to the performance of the team.

But complaining about the refs is a Sacred Cow around these parts.

So you're a scout of some sort? It makes sense with all your detailed analyses. I am social scientist so I am partial to detailed analysis using data. Super interesting for me to read your analyses as well as those of others that attempt to be more objective, though I don't believe pure objectivity is possible. I use mixed-methods (qual/quant) in my own research so especially enjoy analyses that integrate statistics and observations. I have followed the NHL/Avs for 25 years purely as a fan and overall I find it incredibly interesting how knowledge production in the sport has changed, especially the so-called "advanced" stats. A bit OT, but when I was about to chose, which field I wanted to work in I considered sociology of sports, but I chose peace and conflict studies instead. At the time I had the impression that basic knowledge about human interaction beyond the play on the ice was lacking and could improve team performance and overall strategy.
