I've heard that cancelling Amazon is insufferable experience and I just had that with cancelling a plan with another provider. 20 calls, various attempts to cancel, they just kept billing and then wanting to charge "late fees" for something I'd been trying to cancel, and hadn't been using for 10mths. It was a cellphone that was no longer working and we no longer wanted to deal with the same company. I'm leery of "free" promotions. The hook is always there somewhere.
If you only shop Amazon a couple of times a year, sign up for a monthly membership and be sure to cancel when you’re done.

This is increasingly what these businesses do. Make it so hard to cancel that you just get tempted to eat the expense and say f*** it, and continue getting billed, even for something you're not using. I wouldn't be using Amazon at all.
