I agree and most normal people can actually sing it.

I wish ours was different for that very reason.

#1 it is very difficult to sing the US national Anthem. There are many high notes that even pros have trouble with
#2 it was written about a war we LOST

But when the Star Spangled Banner is done right it's a fantastic fantastic way to start a game. Example: Game 7 1994, I have watched that 1000 times and get goose bumps every single time.

Edit: Maybe because you can't hear Amirante. lol

Can you even get quality that's worth watching on mobile?

I tried that once, I'd rather just look at the box score.

Yeah. Last year during game 5 vs Boston, my dad had tickets to a soccer game at Yankee Stadium and we went. Ended up streaming the whole game on my phone via the NBC app. Good quality as long as you have good reception/wifi. Unfortunately, that was the last rangers game of the season.

Also, does anyone know if the NBC app works outside the country?

Amirante is our Rene Rancourt, more about the nostalgia (and the fake hair) than about the singing.

I think we should poach that guy from the Metropolitan Opera full time. I went to a couple of games this season where he sang the anthem, and it was amazing.

I went to Disneyworld recently and had to watch Games 2-5 of the Pitt series on hockeystreams.com.

We got back late at night so I didn't want to see the score, just watch the recorded feed. It gives you the option of CBC or NBC which was great, and also gives you the option of keeping the scores on or off on the site, so that was great for me not wanting to know the result.

The only drawback (other than going through the night without finding out or someone ruining it for you) is if you are watching in the archive format is if the game isnt finished yet you need to get back to the start before playing it live - plus, if the score is say 2-1 a certain team with a few minutes left in the game- its pretty easily to tell if they are going into OT or not by looking at the play timeline. If its at the end with no room to spare you'll know its over.

You can get it anywhere that has an internet, so outside the country would work. It was like 12 bucks for the month which was great. Just make sure you turn off auto-renewal.

Thought this was a great excerpt, especially what Cam says about Hank toward the end…

Lundqvist laughed and was diplomatic when pressed on the concept of "luck" on Wednesday afternoon after the team's practice. He admitted that some good fortune is necessary for every team at this point of the season, but if he caught wind of Subban's comments, he did not seem to take them personally.

"You definitely need luck. It's a fast game. And there's so many things you can't control as a goalie -- how the game is played, the situations that occur in front of you -- so you have to believe in yourself and you have to work hard and a lot of times you have to earn those bounces," Lundqvist said. "There's definitely some luck, no question."

His teammates did not seem to be perturbed by what Subban said, either, even if they disagreed with the assessment. Backup netminder Cam Talbot, who probably knows better than anyone else in the Rangers' room just how much "luck" goes into posting pristine goaltending stats, said that he finds himself sometimes thinking the opposite.

"I don't know what context [Subban] might have said that in, but [Lundqvist] has been playing that way and that game for the entire playoffs now. If anything he's unlucky, look at some of the bounces he's gotten in the last few games," Talbot said. "The only ones that have gone in off shin pads and stuff like that. I don't think he's a lucky goalie. I think he makes saves because he's in good position and because he's so quick. I don't even know how to respond to that."

Wasn't the star spangled banner written about the war of 1812, which we won?

Um. hmm why I don't even... hmmm

Perhaps you are thinking about the battle the song was written about ?

The Poem was written about a battle we won, in a war we lost / tied depends on who you ask.

It wasn't a shot about JA, although he and Marv Albert go to the same fur trapper. I was more opining about how loud that crowd was, it was just amazing.

I agree, I tend to like the opera types. I liked the guy in Chicago (Cornelison) but I think he has gotten a little too cartoonish now but man he has a booming voice. I like that more so than the soul singers and such other places have. The SSB should be short and powerful. When done properly it's an amazing experience to start a game.

Not to derail the thread, but we definitely did not win that war.

But they did win the Battle of Baltimore, where the defense of Fort McHenry took place. The war was a stalemate.

The bar I was in during game 2 actually shut the TV sound off and put on music while the old lady sung O Canada. It was idiotic but I couldn't help but laugh.

The Anthem was written about a victory over the British at Baltimore, DURING the War of 1812, not ABOUT the War of 1812.
Both sides gave back any territories they had occupied during the conflict, but since the conflict was started over several reasons, including the British shanghai-ing Americans into the Royal Navy and their support of Native American resistance, it was at least partially a success. In any case nothing was conceded back to Britain, so it could hardly be considered a war that the US "lost", but was it really a "win" since it didn't achieve a totality of its objectives, most notably annexing what is now Canada? Probably not.

IMO, there's more pressure on a lower seeded team up 2-0 in a series to win Game 3 since that one is at home and losing it will change the series complexion. It happened for the Rangers against Montreal in 1996 and it completely changed that series (winning three straight games by one goal and game 6 by two). If a higher seeded team up 2-0 loses Game 3, it's on the road and would just prove that no road team can win. Here's hoping the boys can keep the throttle on and take a commanding 3-0 series lead tomorrow.

We're in a (pleasantly) weird position here to an extent, in that, last Saturday morning, we'd have given our left nut to be going back to The Garden with the series tied 1-1, but here we are, with a chance to get within touching distance of The Stanley Cup.final, yet, losing the game, could give our boys a wee touch of the jitters.

That being said, we're riding a crest right now, and Hank's seeing the puck like it's a beach ball right now, such is his confidence levels.

The beauty of the whole scenario is, it's all down to ourselves, play good controlled, high tempo hockey (as we've done since game 4 of the Pens series), and we won't be too far away.

The best was Roger Doucet.

I can't post a link, but if you Google him and watch, you will probably agree.

Really getting annoyed at how Montreal just can't possibly lose to anyone and can't possibly suck at scoring and the only reason they suck at scoring was the lack of Carey "Gretzky" Price in net. I guess the reason the game was even after the first 15 minutes on Monday was because they remembered they didn't have Price in net. To quote a Metallica song "Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand".

I hope the garden is loud as **** tomorrow, maybe wishing for as loud as the anthems were game 7 in 94, or some hilarious chants (which the garden faithful never dissapoints) like the old "Can You Hear Us?" A few years back... I'm jealous of you guys living in new york and get the honor of watching the Rangers at MSG... it's on my bucket list :)

Tomorrow couldn't come any sooner!
Let's go Rangers!

I was more annoyed at how cocky their fans were going into the series. They expected to just walk right through us after beating the Bruins. In reality the only reason that they had more points than us was because of loser points and shootout wins. We were better than them both offensively and defensively in the regular season. They were acting like we didn't deserve to be on the same ice as them.
