GDT: Game 29: Wild @ Coyotes

Gross man made one awful decision. On balance, he wasn't the worst out there. How about Stone's play? Yea, his OT shot set up the goal, but IMO he was our worst player.

Least deserving win I've seen in a while. However, Minnesota plays just as a boring game as we do.

Are you kidding me? We got completely outplayed tonight. Minnesota hit six posts by my count tonight. We literally won this game off of pure luck.

Ohh, you took the bait!

A win is a win, don't get me wrong, but if there's people out there who are actually optimistic about the way we played tonight, your face will end up like Domi's when reality hits.

Luck has a way of evening out over the course of the year, same as calls. Take the win. The team lost their confidence on the road, but played better in the third.

It was really quite amazing, we hung in there and got the win. I started seeing this as a possibility around maybe midway through the second.
Did we need some luck and bounces? Sure did, but let's face it we had plenty go against us on the latest road trip and tonight we find the tilt in our favor - it's how it works. This doesn't change our incredible lack of being able to control the puck, or our skill level being well below that of the Wild, but credit the boys for hanging in there, capitalizing on Wild mistakes and Linback for another great game, just like his last start at GRA.
Also worth noting is that the boys played exactly as they needed to get the win in the third, particularly the last ten minutes.

You hit the nail on the head. This team is a work in progress and will be all year.

I focused a lot on Tiks last night. I liked what I saw. I thought that he played a very good game despite not showing up on the stat sheet. He made some very heady plays and I thought on one play he saved a goal by tying up his player when he saw the goalie out of position behind the net.

Grossmann made a dozen awful decisions, typically matching up against worse players than Stone does. And I'm not a fan of Stone, either. It wasn't only decisions for Grossmann; there were also the poor stick handling, off-target outlet passes, etc. I remember him playing better before the road trip, so hopefully it was just a bad game for him.

With Grossman, it all depends on what he is being asked to or attempting to do. If it is clearing the crease, on the PK, or making somebody pay in the corner, he is effective. This occurs mostly when the other team has the puck in our own zone. He has to lay back on zone entries because he is so slow and can't get to the puck quick enough to have time for a good fist pass. Same thing on his bad pinch last night, he is too slow. He is who he is.

Exactly, normally he knows his limitations, but last night????

It's funny - someone here criticized him just the other day for not being able to stand anyone up at the blueline and last night he seemed hellbent on proving them wrong.

Nick? If your reading.... just play your game babe. :)

Agreed, and this is the only way we beat teams like the wild. Their goalie made a mistake on Bods break away, should have played the puck, and was too far out of the net when Bods scored goal number 2. Lindy out played him. Mistakes, at key times, kill you.:)

Exactly, less mistakes = better execution. DT harps about this over and over.
