i wouldn't disagree, just i don't think his hands are good enough for that situation, he's had a few breakaways that ended with missed shots that would lead me to not put him in that situation...maybe in the future that will cahnge for me, but i'm not gonna argue (too much) over 1 person

Maybe, having said that everyone in that second group of forwards has flaws that can be discussed. Kind of why I said our top 4 is fairly obvious.

Fair enough, the problem with Calvert and Johanson (for example)... after they both showed solid skill and confidence three shootouts ago they have seemed to be completley overwhelmed with how to score in the SO... I'd put Jack Johnson or Umberger out there right now... The intense pressure to win on Calvert, Johanson, Atkinson etc. in SO's might be an issue...

Whatever, I'd go with select older guys for now....

I have no idea what you mean by "completely overwhelmed". I don't see that at all. When a move doesn't work, you tend to look clueless. I think we're making too much of out that. I would rather have a move that doesn't work over some of quick shot attempts that will be saved 9 out of 10 times.

I wouldn't put RJ in the top 10. JJ? I can listen to that. He's still not in my top 4.

This was one of the best hockey games I have seen in the last ten years. Both sides just kept coming at each other, daring the other to break. And neither did. I love this team. They are playing the way the game should be played. Games like this show the true sport and beauty of hockey.

I like the whole game, but it got much better towards the end. That OT was incredible. Its ridiculous that OT's are only 5 minutes, it should be at least double that. Oh and go to 3 on 3 after 5 minutes if you really want to make it wild.

I'd like to see less skill competition wins and more wins in OT... At times it seems teams play for the shootout instead of suffering a loss in OT... If I was coach of a team with guys like Kane, Toews, Hossa on my roster I'd embrace the shootout every time...

I'd like to see 3x3 worked into OT somehow...

With those guys I would embrace the 4 on 4 as well.

Just done watching. We have the compete down. Jarmo get us some skill. Proud of our boys. 9 in a row and a win this Saturday will be 10!

I agree with this, but I also think the shootout exposes our lack of pure scoring talent beyond Arty. Jarmo will fix this over the next year or so.

I just perused the career shootout stats at nhl.com.
Frans Nielsen is the best with 25 goals in 40 attempts.

There are some players who won't cost as much as Nielsen with gaudy numbers (40-45%): Brad Boyes, Wojtek Wolski, Matt Cullen.

Its definitely not luck by the way, many of the league's best players are right at the top, along with a few shootout specialists who are consistently up there. The style of play we have means we will probably keep seeing a lot of shootouts.

I missed all but the third period... They played hard and Bob was great again but came up short… It’s really too bad the Jackets can’t seem to get over that hump for two points…

They are earning it but I guess teams can’t be the best checkers in the league and skilled scorers at the same time…

At least they are holding at two points under .500, gotta start getting two points soon for any chance of making the playoffs… Patrick Kane schooled Bob as he has done to many goalies in the shootout, one can't sit back with him, one must be aggressive and go at the puck..

Congratulation’s for setting a new franchise record for points nine games in a row..

Back to work!

Bob did go after the puck with a poke check, just barely missing it. That's why he was out of position for Kane's goal. An inch or two closer to knock the puck, and Kane would have looked like Brassard on his shootout attempt.

Where is Jaroslav Balastik when you need him? :sarcasm:

Had to laugh at Blackhawk fans begging for Mason halfway through the game. Bob was awesome. Classy move by some CHI fans in 217 when they announced the 3 stars, they gave a loud ovation for Bob's 1st star. I will admit I clapped for Crawford as well, he made some stellar saves as well. Overall one of the best games I have seen in person for many years.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I continue to be impressed with Joey's play. He has been holding his own (and at times excelling) against the other team's top players for a few weeks now. They got caught on a couple of shifts tonight, but overall I think he has really turned it up since the recall. Need to get his offensive game going, but that will come.

interesting

Let's see, recapping, we're 2pts north of 15th, 3pts south of 8th, but 2 games out of hand, Rags are in 9th, and LA only 2pts north of 9th

Totally forgot about this but Richards probably has no idea of Aucoins success in the SO. The guy was actually very effective at them not long ago. He'd come in and go bar down with a snap shot every time.

I'm all for changing up the line ups in the shoot out. I personally think that is the most effective. Tonight i would have gone with: AA, JJ, Atkinson

Honestly we're not going to suddenly be good bc we find a way to win SOs. We need to focus on winning games in regulation as in scoring more goals not practicing our SO moves. If Bob was not as good as he was tonight, this thread would be totally different. But good for him and our team to getting it to OT and sticking with the Hawks. So yes I'll give my two cents about the SO bc its fun but we really could be dangerous right now if we could score 3 goals a game.

That's what made the CBJ's overtime performance so impressive. We looked like we belonged on the same ice with those guys - despite the difference in skill.

Nick can skate and JJ loves to jump forward.

I hope those rumors about offering JMFJ to Edmonton are as bogus as I think they are. If we going to offer up defense for a young stud forward and a pick/prospect, I'd rather offer up both Tyutin and Nikitin.
