I think people are overblowing the Wilson high stick. He missed a stick-lift. It wasn’t a normal Wilson taking a run at someone or a complete cheapshot, dangerous play.

Just finished watching the game. They stole a game on the road trip. That is basically what I expected and now they can play with house money. Also, Celebrini is stud. Takes an injury, comes back and it's like he never left. I'm starting to see a comparison between him and Buster Posey. He's going to be the face of the franchise if he isn't already.

What a win.

Torres is now serving a 82 game suspension for being mentioned on HFboards.

ehhhhhhhhhh it was pretty f***ing reckless and he put a lot of muscle two-handed into it. Hard to give a guy like that the benefit of the doubt.

I'm the first to go at Wilson because he is a goon. But context is important, he is going into a puck battle with Celebrini - who is well known now for being extremely good at those. Thinking Celebrini is going to be heavy on his stick, Wilson puts a lot of muscle into the lift.

Problem was that Celebrini saw he had body position advantaged and withdraws his stick - that's why Wilson just gets air.

Reckless - yeah, you could say that. But he is needing to play hard against one of the best players in the NHL.

I mean the reality is he's not this good so I expect regression, but it's not a coincidence that suddenly having two legit D pairings in his and Wallman's happened around the time this team really started flourishing a few games back.
I am so disappointed in you. Don't you know now is the time to tell us all what dumbasses we are and how we're not fit to be in the same cyberspace as you?

That's not my style. He deserved his fair share of criticism, but my gripe was that the focus seemed to be only on him as if no one else was making their fair share of mistakes. At the end of the day him playing this well is good for all of us so why would I want to ruin that?

Not living in fear for his life from the forecheck is probably helping
I agree. Don't know what changed but the forwards are much more willing to come back and lend support in the D-zone instead of just gliding around the red line waiting for the transition. It's not just Mario, all of the D for the most part look better. Even Thrun.

Ferraro is being put in a much better position to succeed as a #4 Dman instead of a #1. Walman, Ceci, and Liljgren are allowing him not to have to match up with the opposition's best players every time, and not to have to play too many minutes and tire himself out. Not to have to play PP and PK both. Not to have to be a leader in the locker room. His ice time in 4 of the last 5 games is in the 19-20ish range (the one he played clser to 25, he was a minus.)

And the team system that Wars has instilled is awesome as the breakout is organized and most of all the movement off the puck in transition is giving the D far better targets for outlets, stretching the ice, and opening up much more space in the Dzone to exit.

Its a whole team system that is based on skating hard off the puck in transition, backchecking hard, supporting the puck, and rotating well both defensively and forward covering D offensively.

Man, a bunch of obnoxious Caps fans started chanting "ref you suck" when Wilson highsticked Celebrini and were generally dumb as hell (there was one that wanted a shot that literally missed the net and bounced off the end boards reviewed because he thought it was a goal the refs missed). Up until then, I was team tank. But I'm glad they won in the end.

Also, as I said preseason, this team is not that bad. Warsofsky has done nothing short of a masterful job. Early in the season, Smith was clearly not NHL ready and Celly was injured. Also, the work ethic and culture of the team was basicially stuck in last year's stinkiness.

However, Wars clearly had specific goals and things to work on despite the results of the first games. It appears that he truly knows what it takes to win games in the NHL. It seems, over the last month since celly's return, that Wars' system is finally in place. The belief is in place. The work ethic is in place, and the confidence level is up, particularly for Smith and celly, which has made a massive difference (smith especially).

For the first time since 2019, the sharks have three lines that can score a goal on a semi-regular basis. Also, for the first time in a looong time, they have a pretty clear #1 Dman, capable of playing well offensively AND defensively. They also have two veteran, competent D pairings.

13-1 is my bet to make the PO's. I would still make that bet today.

I haven’t noticed Thrun lately unless Hahn calls his name out which is a good thing because he was coughing up pucks like an easy pitch machine for little leaguers
