You know who else will do it? That #5 guy that keeps getting benched. lol

Exactly.

Yeah, I thought Drew's comment on Pavelski's change was weird too. And I was putting Burns in as part of the Top-6.

It was pretty hilarious. Great for taking a disciplined line-change? Then he came out and blocked two shots, which fueled the Drew lovefest, and then was invisible or worse the rest of the game.

Don't forget his one great play to Couture! I like Pavelski..hes a good player but I wouldn't be to upset if he were traded for a good package.

Strictly speaking in terms of statistics, Thornton, Marleau, Boyle, etc. aren't the problem. They are matching their historical performance.

Havlat, Clowe, and the bottom-six is the problem.

I am beginning to suspect that part of the reason Braun is staying in the lineup is because he is very coachable. He came up as an offensive defensemen and has almost completely changed his game to a defense-first kind of guy....but I don't think he is the best fit in that kind of role.

I'd like to see him get that lethal shot of his off more often.

The biggest irony to me is that this team his declining fast, and none of Thornton, Marleau, or Boyle is the problem.

Seriously. A perfect storm of Clowe sucking, Havlat being hurt (big surprise) and Pavelski turning Jason Allison slow over night. The lack of depth and secondary goal scoring is killing this team.

Never have I seen a guy go from a #4-6 dman to a questionable NHLer so fast. I know hes had a successful career considering his path to get here but damn hes lost it all.

It is weird especially since he was getting recognition for his play in the 2010 playoffs. He got injured last year and I wonder how much that has affected him.

He lost burns carrying him around, is what happened. Before that boyle carried him around.

Anyway to put a ribbon on the vlasic-braun discussion, vlasic did have a bad night, but his partner didn't help him any. I thought of the two, if vlasic had the greater number of issues, braun had the greater magnitude. some of the decisions he made tonight were beyond brutal.

Sort of the difference between trying a stretch pass and turning it over the the opposing blue line, versus turning it over at your own blue line to an opponent with speed.

No, I don't think that is fair. Murray may have been playing with Boyle, but on his own, he was still a pretty good D-man. What we are seeing now is a Murray who has lost something. Not necessarily speed, but he doesn't seem to be protecting the puck as well, or laying out people as frequently as he did before.

I agree, he was a bit better at doing things as this was a few years ago. I think the situation has changed since then though, the rules (or rules enforcement) have changed a bit over those years. And ...

... Murray has definitely lost something. He has lost a step he can't afford to spare, and he has lost the element of surprise, so to speak, in that other teams know how to minimize his effectiveness. Notice how few opportunities he gets to play the body these days. Drew hasn't mentioned the "hit back" once this season because other teams know how to avoid it.

But his effectiveness was definitely bolstered by a fairly prime Boyle, and DEFINITELY by a prime burns last year. Anyway, point being, it wasn't like he lost it over this summer, he was already losing it last year.

Cliff notes of the game, por favor?

-Nemo bad.
-Patty scores and Drew rambles about how wonderful Joe Pavelski is for making a disciplined change that allowed Marleau to get on the ice.
-Murray beats the hell out of Kyle Clifford.
-Braun and Vlasic get abused.
-??? Wasn't paying attention it was bad hockey.
-Irwin for Norris.
-This team sucks.

Also, Clowe left sometime during the first, supposedly for an injury and didn't come back, but according to Kurz he didn't look injured leaving the rink.

Ugh...

On a positive note I would say this is a large enough sample size to make a permanent adjustment to the roster to make a spot of Irwin. He's played well enough to earn it and he's about the only D man putting up consistent points it seems. He shouldn't play in the AHL again.

As for the rest, this team is screaming for a shake up. Coach or player etc... can't be a 4th liner that goes though, needs to be somebody that will freak out the rest of the team and get them to remove their heads from their butts. That was one of the worst D zone coverage displays this year.

It was pretty even. Clifford got his in at the end.

I never realized how big Douglass Murray was till that fight, that guy is huge. Even if Clifford got his ass kicked, which I wouldn't say it went one way is the other, you got to give the kid some credit for fighting him.
