Too many turnovers in their own zone that led to more ARZ pressure. That hurt them tonight more than D-zone coverage.

I did like Alfie giving it to Kastelic for not finishing a check. The only reason he's on the team is because he's big and can hit.

Yup. It is going to take a while to change the way each player plays the game. Some detailed teaching is required. Have to give Jacques and Alfie some time to do so.

Although this season is a lost cause as far as playoffs are concerned, the rest of this season gives the new coaching staff time to correct bad habits, fix loose play, correct failure to finish checks, improve D zone coverage, etc.

We also need to make some roster changes.

I am definitely questioning the core. We really haven't seen the ability for this team to properly cycle and dominate teams. How many years into the rebuild are we? We still get completely hemmed in by virtually every club in the league.

I am not sure players like Brady or Drake have an extra gear or the capacity to be top line players on a contender. That said I don't think staios is an idiot like Pierre. Changes will be made.

Brady needs to learn to play the game properly. He's not going to kill it anywhere, when all he does is cherry pick and not back check. He's been absolutely terrible this season and he needs to work a lot on becoming captain material. He's not much of a captain if he asks to get out. It would prove he doesn't have leadership qualities. Did Alfredsson ask out?

lmao teams make coaching changes on the fly and start going on runs all the time. We need a permanent coach and a full off-season to not be embarassing? I can’t take any of these excuses seriously man.

Unfortunately he's right. This team has a TON of bad habits imprinted in their noggins and no coach can come in and instantly remove them form their game.

It's not an excuse at all to not expect a major change like what happened with other teams this season as those teams had already won before but needed a new voice in the room.

He literally didn't need to kick and just let the puck go behind the net. He literally caused the goal.

Yup. In the 3rd period the team seemed to start playing to prevent goals against, neglecting to maintain puck possession and not trying to score more. They laid back far too much and let the Coyotes take over the game. Outshot 2 to 1! There is a lot of work to be done to fix this team.

This is so simplistic. You know many of the posters here thought a new voice was needed, without thinking coaching is the only issue.

These players need to be evaluated. See who can learn and adapt.

First test was a massive fail. Will see how they handle another tough one against Colorado.

I 100% agree that a new voice was needed.

I'm just amused with everyone who thought that DJ had no system, and that bringing in a new coach would insta-fix everything.

The issues under DJ were far deeper than "dumb coach, no system". I've had gripes about how DJ dealt with accountability and ice time management for years. Ultimately, Jacques Martin is just a babysitter and a wakeup call for the players. There's a chance they'll bounce back this season, but it's more likely we won't see major change until we get our new coach in here in the off-season.
