100% agree. I hate the 3v3 strategy the Yotes use. They focus so freaking much on trying to maintain possession they refuse to attack enough.
Playing not to lose vs playing to win. Freaking boring to watch. Yuck.

Is there a better example of Rick Tocchet literally not knowing shit about tactics? He had no idea how to change the neutral zone spacing and the breakouts so the Avs couldn't just wait on the inevitable board pass. He saw 4 shots and kept doing the same exact thing. Period after period.

What’s really infuriating is that BA can’t really do much other than fire Tocchet and sit on his hands. OEL, Hammer and Kessel with the NTC’s. Kuemper injured. Other than working on trades for Goose, Demers, Brassard, and an extension for Garland...there’s not really anything he can do unless given permission.
Outshot by 20 last game, 30 this game, and Colorado has 6 regulars players out of the line up. Our vezina caliber goal tending got us another lucky point. BA must see this team getting killed night in and night out. I expect a change in head coach this month. Let one of the assistants take over, we have nothing to lose, we won't be out shot by more than 30 again.
Are you not impressed with Nash picking up a new phrase for this season in "furnace face?" Also, McConnell has been broadcasting hockey for like 25 seasons and has teams over .500 in like 5 of those seasons at best, so you know he's dead inside. I agree it's stale though, they rehash the same conversations and comedic routines every game. With the improvement being implemented in hockey ops by Meruelo under Armstrong's guidance, you'd think they tackle the broadcast a bit more from the business side. I see a lot of community based outreach, but I don't think there is much difference in the TV presentation since the ownership change. Maybe Bissonette will keep moving up.

I think "Fake it till you make it" can sum up Tocc's coaching philosophy. Not once in his career has he shown he can make adjustments during a game. He has a concrete plan or "process" in place for the game, but if the opposition immediately nullify said plan (Colorado), he shits his pants and hopes the goalie bails them out for the next 59 minutes. He's still riding the coattails of a successful playing career which gets him love from the media, but it doesn't take a genius to see he's a dogshit coach.

His problem with the game was "execution". It sounds like he blames the players. No accountability, no mention of adjustments that should've been made.
I thought the players showed a decent effort but didn't know where to go. They were just trying to survive.
Thankfully we're almost halfway through the season and there has been zero mention of an extension.
I can't tell if it's simply the players not being talented enough to play his system, or his system is too tiring to play well, but it's completely fallen apart partway into the season the past two years. It's baffling that they can play at such a high level coming out to start the season as you could see from underlying stats showing they were up there in chances generated. I think blaming it on poor talent is not correct here. It's happened two seasons in a row, and he's had no answer. He cannot adapt to the personnel he has and make them more effective, or at least try something new so each game isn't a repeat of the opposing team's demonstration of full knowledge of exactly how to decimate the Coyotes system.

Sheesh... no sugar-coating it. That was a horrible series. Insanely frustrating to not see any system changes or adjustments from Toc the entire series.

I assume the players are frustrated as hell. They constantly have to play defense because there is a lack of competency at transitioning the puck out of the zone and into the offensive zone. The plays they're told to implement aren't working and no one offers a solution to it. I think most of the positive plays they are making are due to individual efforts where players can use their own skill and creativity to do something.
Playing in a system that isn't working means you're going to put a poor effort in. Tocchet clearly has lost the room and then relost it again this season after the first 10 games when opposing teams started to get comfortable with their own systems and could start focusing on countering the opponent's.
They abandoned any improvements Varady made during the St Louis series. Since then, shot totals have absolutely plummeted. Since Feb. 16th, the Coyotes have been the worst team in the league 5v5, even worse than Detroit. I am not kidding. Dead f***ing last in xGF/60 and xGF%.
They are 4% worse in FF% than the next worst team in the league.
Literally playing like dogshit and it has nothing to do with personnel.

It is the same B.S. every night. Pass it up the boards. Their defensemen pinch. Beat us to the puck. Are we that stupid or have such lack of talent that we can't make a 10 foot pass to the middle of the ice for a breakout. Tonight was outright embarrassing. Don't even know what it looked like. Maybe a good college team tonight. So tired of watching this. If BA can't see that Tocchet is worthless then this may be my last year. Might start watching the Knights and Avs. God I hate saying that.
The world knows that when healthy, Raanta is a world class goalie. Man, I wish he could stay healthy.
Winning is all that matters, but you are right it was embarrassing. In reality, we should all be use to this by now. With so much parity in the league this should never happen, and if does, once in a blue moon, but we get outshot almost every game.
Yup, it's tough to do anything this year. I read that owner's are telling their GM's to not add to the payroll for the playoffs. Go with what you got.
