Was going to be tough to beat Price in a shootout.

MTL has a ton of good shooters.

At least the Kigns got a point.

I pegged this a loss, before the game started.

Sucks to lose, and score 4 on Price though.

won't the Kings trade or acquire another goalie soon?

the can't be for real with Budaj, he is beyond terrible.

Have to ride him out, cause Quick is due back January/Feb some time.

No point in spending assets now, to get a goalie for a short time.

Honestly, there is not a better option out there anyway.

Kind of what we have to expect with a backup backup goalie in, honestly...gonna lose games sometimes because of goaltending. It's like the beginning of the season really, when we were playing well but losing...the aberration was his hot streak. Get used to the idea of some Ls incoming when we play good enough to win.

Embarrassing performance by the Kings physically though, letting guys dangle everywhere. Haven't seen that since before Terry Murray. ****ing HATE that. Blow someone up to make a point and take 2 for roughing instead of a bunch of ****** stick fouls.

Knowing the Kings situation, any team is going to want a nice return for their backup goalie anyway.

No one is going to do the Kings any favors. So sit tight, hope Budaj continues to play at least average to above.

Letting teams gain speed and hit the blue-line with numbers drives me nuts. The Kings have big enough, and fast enough bodies to stop that.

Yet, they let teams like MTL/SJ do it every single time to them. It's infuriating.

The old Kings, use to smother that garbage out. Pond Hockey use to be an automatic loss against the Kings.

We've seen Quick be as good as Budaj today in the SO. Can wish Budaj was better, but he is what he is.

Score 4 on Price, you want to win, but definitely don't want to lose in regulation. The Kings are already at double digit reg losses, and still in single digit reg wins.

Toffoli? King and Lewis both now have more 5v5 goals. Also more total 5v5 points. Setoguchi has as many 5v5 goals as TT with 3. The Kings really can't afford another inflated contract on the wing.

Kopitar went 17 games without a goal in 11-12. Went 16 games without a goal in the short 12-13 season. He's now at 14 this year. He's got 28 shots on net in the 14 games though. Not a ton, but at least it's not under 2 again like in 14-15.

Pearson has 2G and 1A in his last 12 games. Brown still has just 1 5v5 goal, and also has 2G and 1A in his last 12 games. Dowd still has 0 5v5 goals, and like Kopitar, has gone 14 games without a goal period.

At least the PP actually got a couple goals. Without those, it's probably a regulation loss and 0 points. They found another way to keep themselves in the race with spit and duct tape.

It's hard to blame the guy. He's not an NHL goalie and he's playing against top NHL talent. On top of that, he's being overplayed.

Should've claimed Wedgewood off waivers.

Like I said in another thread I feel for the guy and it's admirable what he's doing but it's a clear weakness. And he's STILL playing above his career avg...

Not at you directly, but playing Devil's Advocate...I asked the question last year do we really care if Kopitar finishes the year with ZERO goals if he gets 90 points? :naughty:

If someone is still increasing the production of those around them, I'm not so worried about their lack of production. I'm slightly worried about TT in that case, but not so much about Kopitar. 5 points in the last two games for Kopitar, by the way, and it's noticeable. But Kopi is a career 12.2% shooter shooting 4.3% (and god knows how many posts), and TT is a career 11.5 shooting 6.3. It's normal to think these guys will start potting more while our depth players normalize back to not as much as well. And we have more GF overall than any team in the division that's not Edmonton, we just have to start keeping them out with better defensive focus and goaltending.

Now DREW...Drew I'm worried about. I don't know if it's sickness or injury or what but he looks off. Some of it is bad reads between him and Forbort (first goal today, which included the forwards), some of it is just flat out getting outworked on the boards and in the open ice...it's like if he doesn't have perfect initial position, he gets worked. That's terribly unusual.

Well, he had a full season career low of 16 goals in 14-15. The Kings averaged more goals per game that year than they currently are this year. Barely, but they did. The biggest problem a couple years ago was that he wasn't getting enough shots to the net. This year he's not having that particular issue, it's like you say, the horrible sh%. Which if those couple post shots he's had this year go in, it's a different ballgame.

Oddly enough, in the short year when Kopitar had 10 goals in 47 games, the Kings also averaged more goals that year than they are this season, or either of the Cup years.

Yeah, a couple goals in the next game or two, and the sh% pops right back up, and the stats look prettier. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

And we have more GF overall than any team in the division that's not Edmonton, we just have to start keeping them out with better defensive focus and goaltending.

Which isn't something new to this season. This was an issue last year, and the year before that, and the first 3 games in the 2014 playoffs sort kicked these defensive and goaltending questions into motion. Too many leads blown, too many goals against in bunches.

Yeah, usually solid in the Dzone. His spins aren't working as well. Those little passes he makes before he gets hit by a forward. Sort of one second off with everything in his own zone this year.

The one thing that can give fans optimism is that we can list at least a dozen things going wrong, but they're hanging in there. When the top guys get back into it, or get back into the lineup period, in theory that would mean they have something to build on.

Like I said, Forbort with his excellent skating, has already bailed Doughty out too many times for my liking.

I counted at least three times, just against MTL.

Drew needs to get back on track.

If you put up 4 on Price you MUST WIN. Blowing leads again in the 3rd sucks , especially the way King just decided to stop as his man skated right by him for the rebound. If he continues to skate and stay in his lane, he prevents the tying goal. As for ot, this was the first time they really didn't look like they wanted it like they usually do, aside from Kopitars attempt at a wrap around, not much urgency.

I agree with others, they played them really soft at times, way too much space for the Habs players to move.

Drew and Forbort look like two individuals that are on the ice at the same time, playing totally different games. The first goal was bad, yeah. Then there was an outnumbered attack where Forbort was hesitant and got caught up ice, he didn't really know where Drew was. His skating got him back and he made a nice play, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Muzzin and Martinez make their boneheaded plays occasionally, but they always know where the other one is going to be and play off each other. With Drew and Forbort, it's either one making a nice play on their own most of the time.

It's the main reason I don't think Forbort is a viable solution long term playing with Doughty. And I don't think any of it's Forbort's fault at all, it's all Doughty. The guy is extremely difficult to play with, it's very hard to read what he's going to do. Hell, I don't think Doughty even knows what he's going to do until the last minute most of the time. He had great success paired with guys like Scuderi and Mitchell, veterans who could read the play in their sleep. When playing with Doughty, skill set takes a back seat to just reading and playing off him.

When Drew is paired with Muzzin, it's a potent offensive punch but it's also a roller coaster, it's anything but controlled back there. I think McNabb is the only guy who has shown to be an effective partner for Drew since 2014. It's odd because McNabb doesn't strike me as a thinking type player, but I think what he has learned to do is read off Drew and figure out where to be and when to be there. Drew is way more confident when he's paired on the ice with him, and I think things will settle down and straighten out with him when he gets back. Right now, he's all over the place.

It's a little fuzzy, but did Lewis score on a partial breakaway on Price?

The END is nigh!!!!! Cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!

Seriously... that's a sign of the apocalypse... that with this cold weather.... Somethings up with the hockey gods... My guess is someone figured out how to give most of North America, Edmonton weather in exchange for the Oilers making the playoffs. The Hockey Gods extract a huge toll.

Yes I care. He needs to stop relying on others to do the dirty work when he's wearing the C and getting paid 14 million.

That whole series was off. Dowd was caught deep in the offensive zone, Brown was on the left side, Greene took the guy with the puck along the left wing boards, Gravel took the guy going down the middle, and then Brown and King couldn't decide who was taking the 3rd man that was coming down on the side Brown was on. You can see them both probably look each other in the eye for a second, and they thought the other had Shaw. Then Budaj left a big rebound in the middle of the ice.

You can freeze the picture right after the goal and see 6 Kings jersey's surrounding 1 Canadiens jersey. Not a great few seconds for anyone.

I agree. He needs to take the reigns of this team and lead. It's his team now, and he needs to start playing with some killer instinct.
