They looked a bit sloppy against the Islanders, which to me was a bit concerning because i was noticing a lot of the same trends that essentially got Montgomery fired. Sorokin having a rough night kinda covered a lot of that. My thought was "was it just an aberration or did the dead cat stop bouncing?"
While i think in my opinion it is still too early to tell, i really don't like those same trends appeared again tonight and were worse;
- Defense lost any semblance of structure. For the love of god break up McAvoy and Lorhei. McAvoy hasn't been great in his own right this season but sticking him with a boat anchor isn't helping in the slighest. At this point i would be fine with sending Lorhei to the AHL.
- This offense is pathetic. 30+ shots on a guy with a sv% of under 870 and all you can manage is a single goal? What is this, 2010?
- Back on the offense; as it turns out, Tyler Johnson is not a top 6 forward in 2024. Who knew? Nor is Morgan Geekie. Nor is Trent Frederic. Weird, starting to notice a pattern.
- 12 straight home games without a single third period goal. Call it overreaction, call it cherrypicking, i personally call it alarming.
It's pretty much what i thought; Was Monty a problem? Objectively, yes, You could see it in the way they played prior to him getting fired. But was he THE problem? Starting to look like no given Sacco can't get shit out of that trash heap of a forward group either. Cam and Don's seats better be mighty f***in warm right now.
People calling for a trade, i don't disagree with you but at the same time what could you realistically move to get value back? The guys that have value being moved wouldn't fix anything and would be lateral at best. I don't think trading Pasta or McAvoy fixes anything, but at the same time good luck trying to dupe somebody into giving you something of value for a Carlo or Frederic.
