I don't know what to make of the Wings this season. They're a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde bunch. Husso can be a handful but if we can shut down the Larkin/Perron/Kubalik line we shouldn't need to get many by him.

Looking at their stats, at 5v5 they've been pretty bad with their xGF% ranking 25th in the league, and their high danger chance% has them 25th as well

Feels like a case of riding a hot goalie early on

I don’t think this is going to be as easy of a detroit team to beat as they were in the past

They actually have some nice scorers, a good #1 and #2 d, and some hot goaltending

I think Matthews breaks out today. I’ll say this everyday until it happens, but after last game, I think he actually does it tonight.

Leafs better not expect this to be an easy game or they could find themselves in for a doozy

You could say this before every game we ever play.

Only the recent past. Through the history of the 2 clubs the record is very close.

Yup, was speaking towards mostly the Matthews era. Usually wins were 4+ goals

Should be interesting. Leafs can't win every game, but the way they've been playing it feels like they could. Fanbases still have poor scouting on us it seems, as their GDT has posters thinking Murray is saving our season. Hopefully they leave the game with respect for how Toronto plays with structure.

Thinking Matthews has a big night finally. Calling a 5 point night with a hattrick.

True, but in the past, Detroit was usually a game to grab points and run the score up. This year, it doesn’t seem that way.
I just think that it doesn't even matter how it seems, we've lost so many games over the years where we were massive favorites that we should never assume a game's going to be easy. Play your ass off until you have such a massive lead that you can't possibly lose with given the time remaining, then you can take your foot off the gas a little. JMHO.

What's wrong with the Leafs offense this year? Shooting percentage luck aside, they're middle of the pack / mediocre across most metrics - shots, shot attempts, shooting %, expected goals, scoring chances, goals for etc.

They were a top 5-7 team in all of these last season. Right now it's their defensive stats and goaltending that is keeping them afloat. The top six hasn't really changed, is the bottom six really that much worse? Is the defense not engaging enough on offense?

It's better lately.

Mix the terrible start the Leafs had and some terrible shooting percentage, and the result is bad offence.

Shooting %, a greater focus on D, particularly with most of the top D out.

I had forgotten about that wild game. That game was the epitome of why this board can be so fun.

Elation to everyone pulling their hair out to relief.

Then overanalyzing every second of the game.
That game was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. Both teams decided "f*** defense" and the goalies kind of balied out...
