The real important thing. The Kings stopped one loss from turning into 3, 4, or 5 in a row. First time they haven't done a wild swing like that this season. That's good news. I don't expect anything on Sunday afternoon with the Habs in town, but we'll see.

It's a nooner too. 12 pm start which is worse that the usual sleepy 1pm start . Good point about the loss followed by a win. This is the first time it's happened all season.

...
Amen, now 6-1 in last 7, with the only loss coming to the Sharks. And they've looked good for most of that stretch. We can critique the minutae all we want, that's phenomenal.

A visual representation of our streaky play this season. We finally bucked the trend.

Even a magic 8 Ball can't answer that one.

The fact that Dustin Brown, Dwight King and Devin Setoguchi all have scored more than Kopitar is even more astonishing to me.

Anze's shooting percentage is down the crapper this season at a measly 4.4%.

The only players behind him are Forbort (who has one goal), Shore, Purcell, Gravel and Andreoff, who all have zero goals combined. I'm excluding Gaborik since he just got back in the groove this week.

It's great that this team has clung to a playoff spot through December 1, but how long can they rely on not having production from their supposed franchise center and team captain?

Kopitar has to get going soon. This team can't depend on the bottom six to carry the workload and we've seen how inconsistent the second line can be. The issue is that we have not seen any consistency from whichever line Kopitar is on. He's not exclusively used as a shutdown center. He's not being paid $10M to be Michal Handzus.

I agree, but I also think that's indicative of a guy who is going to break out soon and big. History has shown it, too. I'm excited to see what this team will look like when it does. Three true scoring threat lines with a 4th that's good at possession and will keep you honest, and the most mobile defense we've had in years.

They just better not remove Forbort from the lineup whenever McNabb returns. But then the problem is that McNabb goes in for Gravel, which means a pairing of McNabb and Greene. That's not an ideal pairing.

I think they'd make it McNabb-Doughty and Forbort-Greene/Gilbert...presumably that time up top has helped Forbort grow immensely

I agree this team has issues that aren't easily fixed, but didn't Kopitar pretty much set up 2 of the goal tonight?

Looks like a Bingo card that has a pretty good chance of winning. Bingo!

You gotta be impressed with this teams resilience. They are finding ways to win.

P.S. Please put that 70's line back at the number one line. Thanks.

I can't remember Doughty getting beat 3 or 4 times in a game. I can't even remember him getting beat twice in a game. Possibly the worst game I have seen him play in 5 years.

Kopitar has had an odd year. He's actually getting shots to the net, unlike in the 14-15 season, when he had 16 goals. He averaged 1.7 shots on net that year. It's 2.37 so far this year. That's his 2nd highest average since 2012. Plus those posts which don't end up counting as shots.

The only thing with all those shots, is that none of them are going in. Taking out the posts he's hit, of what quality are the shots he's getting through? How many of them have been on the PP, with nobody in front of the goalie? How many are just throwing the puck to the net, wanting to get a faceoff?

If the shots that hit the posts go in, we're probably talking different numbers then. Scoring on 4.4% of his shots, that's a territory that few forwards on the Kings have been at over the years. Less than a done Richards, or Stoll, lower than the past few years of Brown, worse than Lewis a few times.

The good thing is that Kopitar isn't at that level. Some of those shots have to start going in. If he ends up with 15 goals though, the Kings might only make the playoffs because Dallas and Calgary can't outscore their problems this year.

So, who expected Jordan Nolan, Nic Dowd and Kyle Clifford to have as many goals as Anze Kopitar through December 1?

Expected? No. Surprised? Not anymore. We've seen Kopitar go through stretches like this. Still a little disappointing and potentially troubling? Sure. We've also seen him put up 3 goals and 8 points in 3 games too. We've seen him be the only guy to score a goal on the team in 6 consecutive games. We've seen him have 16 goals in a full season. We've seen the team beat the Hawks and Rangers without a goal from Kopitar for 12 games, which I think is still one of the craziest stats from a 2014 playoff filled with insanity.

At the very least, Kopitar is getting his shots to the net. Unlike in 14-15, he's not behind Lewis in shots on net this year.

One thing I'll give Kopitar the benefit of the doubt about is that his wingers have been Purcell, Lewis and King. That means the other team can exclusively guard Kopitar.

I reckon now that Gaborik's with Kopi we'll start to see Kopi get a lot more quality scoring opportunities.
