DeBrusk handpass was different than last night. Puck was next to him and he was on the ice and he did nudge it and another Bruin handled it immediately after. This was a shot off the glove and no way equivalent.
Yeah I don’t buy that at all. I’ve seen hand passes called when a player hits another guy’s glove with a shot and it bounces off it to a teammate. If it deflects off your glove to a teammate it’s a hand pass.

Hell, I remember the 2019 WCF when the league admitted they missed a hand pass that led to a SJ OT-winning goal (and this 30 seconds after they also missed a Pietrangelo puck over glass penalty too. But that was never mentioned, of course). Puck hit a guy, bounced of him, then bounced off his glove right to Erik Karlsson who scored. This is one of the reasons why the league went to the “missed-stoppage review” thing in the first place. It’s also one of the reasons why St L suddenly became the media and league’s darlings: because it was felt that they lost a game due to a missed called, all the while conveniently ignoring the missed call on Pietrangelo. This league.

I don't agree as nudging a puck when you are literally sitting or kneeling down in the corner, to a teammate, is much different than a shot deflecting off a player in front of the net.

No way that's called a hand pass given the velocity of the shot off his glove, come on man. Only a Bruins fan thinks that's a handpass.
I can’t wait till next game when Pasta fires a onetimer off of Zacha’s glove and Geekie scores off the rebound but it’s called back because of a hand pass. I’ve seen shots off gloves which then bounced to a teammate called a hand passes before and I’m sure I will again too.

We aren't going to agree here. I would be majorly pissed if I was a fan of any team getting a goal waved off. A puck deflecting off a glove on a shot with velocity can easily be judged as not a handpass.

51 goals in 23 games is hideous and the sample size now indicates this is not bad luck.

I don't know if Don can fix this....................... The Bruins today are the 2016 Red Wings and that retooling has not gone well.

and now at 8 AM leaving Cambridge for Belmont Park
Yep.

They have one guy who can score, and he doesn’t do much else.

He’s one of your building blocks. Your others are McAvoy and the goalie who you locked up long term.

Then you have your outer core of guys you’ve acquired in free agency or in a trade and have extended long term in the Lindholms.

You had to hope and pray a guy like Poitras was found treasure and could all of a sudden slide in as a legit top 6 forward. That’s clearly not the case (at least not yet).

So could they make the playoffs as a wild card?

Sure.

But to what end? Get waxed in 5 or 6 games in the first round. That’s their ceiling.

It’s the late 90s all over again.

Is anyone excited about this Centennial game on Sunday against the bottom dwelling Habs smack dab in the middle of NFL football?

Anyway, I’m glad the team is playing competitive games. I hope Sacco gets whatever he can out of this group. The roster is the roster, and it’s been a long time coming.

Is there a quick retool they can pull off? I don’t know. What do they have of value that they can flip?

How the Bruins play tonight, will show a lot about the character of this team.

Play hard, skate hard, put in a complete effort in every puck battle.

If we see this, the goals and the wins will come

Weirdly enough I'm actually not sure injuries would have made things much worse. Because almost every forward has been out of form or otherwise underperforming, it's hard to pinpoint anybody who's absence would be especially detrimental, and if the next guys in line aren't exactly great, the ones currently filling spots aren't setting the world on fire either. Pasta is still the most obvious one on this front, but even there his impact has been well-below the norm; Marchand I guess more from a leadership perspective than his general play; Kastelic because he has the most heart. Most of the rest are fairly interchangeable at present.

Still the injury luck is notable, even allowing for Hampus' knee, and it won't last forever. That run after the Flyers game on the 7th definitely gets tougher, and then heading into January it really doesn't let up. Sweeney can't just wait for the deadline this time. I don't want him doing something drastic yet, but he does need to do something, and soon. I'm not one of those people that thinks the Bruins MUST make the playoffs, but at the same time I think this roster, for all its struggles, deserves some help and at least some sort of attempted scoring boost so we can see just how much it might be worth investing in further, if at all, come the deadline.

As Pasta goes, so go the Bruins.

He's on pace for his worst season since he was a teenager.

And his overall play certainly isn't inspiring any of his teammates.

I agree that it shouldn't be a hand pass if the puck deflects off a glove to a teammate--- the big problem is that we've seen it called that way many times over the years.

I think they should just go to calling it the same way they do "kicked goals".

If there is a distinct attempt to direct the puck to a teammate with the hand, it's a hand pass.

Anything else isn't.

McAvoy for Schneider, Kreider and NYR #1.

Some have said “they need scoring depth”.

They also need scoring at the top of the lineup. It can’t just be one guy, which is basically what it is.

They have Pastrnak and that’s it in terms of dynamic talent who can manufacture offense. They don’t have playmaking centers that can turn 20 goal scorers into 35 goal snipers.

In order to scratch and claw for a wild card spot, it’s going to take them going balls to the wall, beating up on the bad teams, and winning some ugly games 2-1.

They could do it. But again, to what end? One and done in the playoffs.

And that’s fine. Not every year is going to be a Cup contending year. But the arrow is not pointed up.

It isn't and I kind of don't blame him to an extent. He's getting zero help from his teammates, and he knows every night he's going to go out and double and triple-teamed, and knocked around because he's the only legit threat the Bruins have. I guess Brad still is, but not what he used to be, so it's all Pasta. It has to be demoralizing for the guy at some level.

Not sure you can call a hand pass when the players hand is on his stick. He's obviously trying to deflect the shot, not direct it to a teammate. Seemed like a bad decision to challenge.

The officials in this league suck at explaining the reasoning behind calls and overturned calls.

Part of it might be a language barrier for sure.
I know Brickley couldn’t hear the ref’s mic last night.

Raycroft called the league out for the shit explanations. I agree.

Watch an NFL game for comparison. Listen to the referee explain why a call was changed. They may not get it right, or you may disagree with the interpretation, but it’s night and day in terms of how it’s articulated.

Pasta had the same situation last season.

Yet he put up 110 points and was +21.

I'm not blaming anyone but Pasta himself.

It’s the picking and choosing that has people feeling frustrated. Clean up the rule, or call it consistently. That’s all

I’m not at all opposed to thinking outside the box and taking a swing or two at the fences in a trade.

What does having McAvoy, Pastrnak, and Swayman in their primes locked up do for you if the rest of the roster isn’t good enough?
I proposed Carlo for Kesselring a couple of weeks ago. Saves about $3M on cap next year and he is one year older than Lohrei.

You can't trade both McAvoy and Carlo but those are a couple of proposals.
