You've got multiple influential municipalities battling against each other and a weak owner. It's not a traditional hockey market, so you won't have people in the streets with pitchforks to keep a team that's been operated like a joke and passed from downtown to suburb to college.I just feel like if they reallllly wanted hockey, they would have found a way. And that includes the community swaying politics if need be. But I don’t know the situation in detail, so maybe I’m wrong.
If it was ever actually run like a business with the intent of succeeding as a hockey franchise, it probably would have worked fine.
